On UW-Whitewater student arrested on gun charges

Posted on November 4 at 2:24 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

Wisconsin should not have a law that allows people to carry concealed weapons. It's bad enough that criminals carry them. It sure would have an impact on Law Enforcement officers. Their job is hard enough, lets not give every joe blow the right to carry a weapon...there really isn't the need, this isn't the wild west.

On Three hospitalized in alcohol-related crash

How do you know they didn't charge the person that provided alcohol for the 17 y/o? People are too quick to criticize without knowing the whole story.

On Correctional officer fired after sexual contact with inmate

Posted on July 31 at 8:10 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

The reality here is that one person made a choice to do something he knew was morally and ethically wrong. We may never know the "details" of what really happened. While I agree that people in certain professions should be held to a higher standard, remember this...we are all human. In the end the officer will have to pay for his mistake. He has already lost his job and his picture is in the paper, the public humiliation and prosecution has already begun. Keep in mind cameras can't be everywhere...when at work you shouldn't need a camera to make sure you maintain your morals and ethics. If you are a professional then you shouldn't put yourself in a "bad" position. There are still a lot of great people that work at the RC Jail.

On Correctional officer killed in crash

This is a tragedy...it doesn't matter who you are, don't forget that we are all human. A life was lost here and a father was taken from his children. Focus on praying for his family.

On Attention for jail diversion program

Why does it matter? If the diversion program is working to relieve overcrowding in the jail, then hooray!

On Hushing a Day of Silence

Is this really about posters? If it's that big of a deal then the school should limit how many posters each group can put up. I'm appalled at the comment made by C Winters and that the Gazette printed it. What I find disgusting is how people use religion, hatred, and bigotry as an excuse. We should focus on tolerance and acceptance. It is ok to be different.

On Citizens voice concern over Gay-Straight Alliance in Janesville schools

Its nice to see there is a Gay/Straight Alliance group. People have to open their minds and realize that people are born gay. It's not a disease you pick up from hanging around other gay people. Life is difficult enough will all the things that are happening around us. And think about it...would someone really choose to be gay. The only real choice is living your life and being true to yourself...regardless of how other people feel about it. The group SHOULD be treated like every other group.

On Rock County added enforcement for Break in Weather

Posted on April 19 at 9:42 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

After reading some of the comments I would like to add some thoughts. The extra enforcement coupled with bar owners finally not allowing those under 21 on their premises attributed to the success of the event. People are all to often eager to criticize police for doing their jobs. Extra funds for enforcement aided in curbing underage drinking as well as other violations. The biggest violation I saw were people walking up and down streets with open beer cans. Common sense would dictate you shouldn't walk around in public with an open beer can so why do it at the Break in the Weather party. Those ticketed only have themselves to blame.

On Scam promises victims a check

Unless the couple provided bank account information or other personal identifying information....there is nothing the police can do. The reason they suggest contacting The Gazette...the public should be aware that someone may be "phishing" and unexpecting people might be taken advantage of.

On Injury, cold can’t stop stunt rider’s return

I'm not sure I would make light about totaling someone else's vehicle. Maybe it's time for a motorcycle safety course in addition to promoting motorcycle helmets.
