I am not a huge fan of the WAR stat...mostly because I have not been able to comprehend the math behind it (I haven't really tried though). I listened to the Ground Rule Single Podcast, but couldn't make it all of the way through without letting my mind wander.
.
I'll be the first to admit that I watch entirely too much baseball. I base player value on watching them play. A stat that I do like though is OPS. Basically lets me know what base a player will probably be standing on at the completion of their AB.
.
BTW I'm heading up to Milwaukee for this Friday's game. Pretty excited to see Shelby Miller throw (I still have an abnormal disdain for the Cardinals - that is the Cub fan in me). Should be a great game.

On Should Yovani be suspended?

I hear you Tim. Much like PED use is allegedly rampant in MLB so are instances of players getting DUI's. One reason is that there isn't a policy in place to address this issue. In other words there aren't severe consequences to getting caught. The legal aspects of receiving your first DUI in WI are relatively minimal (1st offense is a traffic ordinance violation) and there is no penalty for a DUI in MLB.
.
A policy outlining specific consequences would go a long way towards curbing this trend.

I think baseball needs to have a formal policy in place. Much like steroid use in the early 2000's, there is nothing in place regarding DUI's. 15 games does seem right, but why should Yo be the example? 2012 MVP Miguel Cabrera has a history of alcohol abuse and a DUI to his credit. Should he and every other player with a prior DUI get 15 games as well? There needs to be a policy on place before we go handing out suspensions. If this was an unprecedented case I'd be ok with a suspension without a formal policy, but it is not unprecedented. DUI's have been pretty common amongst baseball players and professional athletes in general. It's unfortunate that Yo made this choice, but I don't think he needs to be made an example of (anymore than he already has).

Deal. I'll throw the right arm into the Rock River. That should fix everything.

I think that tjncj is correct. I am willing to do the right thing hand over my John Axford bobble head. I still have the box for it and everything. The Ron Swanson bobble head on my desk will be lonely without the Axeman, so I'll just have to win this year for real.
.
I may have accidentally put a voodoo curse on the Axford bobble head too. The real John Axford has been terrible this year.
.
I'll await the official results from the arbitrator though...maybe I can still get off on a technicality... :)
