The automated system was great! Got the message both on my cell phone and my work phone. Although, I read that they had returned to classes here on the gazette. Maybe a follow-up call for those who can't access the internet during the day? I know, I'm picky. lol

On Planning starts for swine flu clinics

I believe the Volunteers they are asking for are for the running of the vaccination clinic. Not for willing individuals to receive the vaccine. That is how I interpreted the article.

On What deters your children from walking/biking to school?

Posted on April 29 at 9:27 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

I have always driven or walked my children to school because I can. Because on the ride to AND from school are the best times to find out what has happened throughout the day. Sure, in Elementary School I walked to school everyday. I was being watched by a daycare provider in her home. I walked home from school everyday. I did it in all sorts of weather. My parents worked 12 hours a day and didn't have a choice. Once I entered Middle School I rode the bus. (lived in a small farm community)I went through more experiences than I care to share on that bus for three years. My parents COULDN'T. Therefore, I wanted my kids to know I COULD! And that I wanted to. I didn't want myself or them to have any regrets because I couldn't. I am sure they regret my questions everyday, they groan...but when they look back 30 years from now, will they mind? I was bitter about my lost time with my parents. They can grow up bitter cuz I cared to much. :)

On Co-Operation Read

I read to Ms. Newlin's 2nd grade class at Lincoln Elementary and I had GREAT time. I read "The Fourth Little Pig" by Teresa Celsi (4th pig is the Sister, who coaxes her brothers out of the house to enjoy life and stop being afraid!)and "Pirates Don't Change Diapers" by Melinda Long. I was worried that the age group might have been to old for these "picture books" but I talked about how important it is to read what you love, no matter the material, no matter how short or long the story. "The Fourth Little Pig" is my all time favorite and I think my love for both books came through. The kids were GREAT and you could really tell they appreciated someone in their classroom. I even got HUGS as I left. I could have read all day long. KUDOS to everyone that went out and read to these kids.

On Board allows solar panel

Although abandoned vehicles, yard waste and several other items left in yards and driveways are allowed. Not that this is the case near this home. I don't even know what neighborhood this is. BUT...good for them. Use less natural resources, save some money, etc. I wasn't pleased with the tree house my neighbors put up years ago (not architecturally sound or aesthethically pleasing) but our home sold just fine. I am jealous that I cannot afford a solar panel of my own.

On Group hopes funds help retain GM

I am currently in need of a bailout. Anyone willing to set up a task force? As for trying to keep GM in Janesville...if there isn't anything to produce wont it be counterproductive?

Rooster...the man is local, owns buildings in Rock County already. Why wouldn't he stay here? Your comment makes no sense to me.

On Carelessly opened car doors could result in fines

sannio...thank you! I needed that laugh today. I do believe Fort Atkinson has some sort of ordinance in regard to this. An old boss of mine, who had just moved to the area, opened his door into traffic while parked downtown. He received a citation. I think its a great idea. Although, it should already be common sense. And to ticket the bicyclist? Don't they have to look out for enough things out there already?

On Janesville School Board to discuss long-range plans

Posted on February 3 at 9:11 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

motherof2: I completely agree. Although I know that the plan that was "in place" was never enforced, it didn't seem to be working poorly the way it was going currently. I have to take children to three schools and I was never late. I have 45 mins to get home, pick up my kids and get back to work. I did this knowing how the route worked. There is NO WAY 500 cars can get through the way it is worked up now. I have been dropping off children at Marshall since it opened on Pontiac and I have always dropped off in the parking lot and picked up in the parking lot. Now my children can't walk anywhere there without the threat of getting hit. The streets are now congested waiting to get into the drop off lane and I feel like we are entering a police state. The first day of implementation each entrance to the parking lots was guarded by school staff. I felt like a child. And what a waste of my tax dollars. I understand they want to streamline it in some way, but a reminder to parents as to HOW it is expected to be done (not how we are all screwing it up) and a good plan as to get us all there in a timely manner might have been helpful. And I found it inconvenient that a note was sent out on Jan. 29 and they were enforcing it Jan. 30. That was not enough time for me to let them know I'd be late for work. Even with us leaving my house 10 mins early this week my daughter hasn't entered the building before 7:58 a.m. I have encountered more road rage and insults thrown out to other drivers since this has started. I pride myself on having the ability to take my kids to school. It's the one thing I promised myself and my children when I decided to be a parent. It was what was important to me. And this is making it stressful for me. I can't even drop my child off once I'm in the line and allow her to walk across the parking lot. These children are in MIDDLE SCHOOL! They are supposed to learn to be responsible but we don't rely on them to be responsible for themself entering a parking lot. We still need to hold their hands.
