On Rotary Gardens board wants to charge an admission fee

Rotary Gardens is a park, that's true. However, it is a park that is maintained everyday by volunteers and is the most beautiful place around to have a wedding or take prom, senior or family pictures.
Obviously some people in Janesville think that the Gardens magically take care of themselves and therefore do not need any financial support from those visiting. I think that some of you need to take a step back from your daily ranting about how much money we pay in taxes and realize that without helping to pay for things in our community, our community would cease to exist.

Cardtrader~ I highly doubt that the offensive record of a high school football coach is any indicator of what kind of administrator he will be. It all seems like a lot of uneducated ranting to me. Jeremy Bilhorn is as dedicated of a teacher as a district could ask for, and I'm sure he will be a dedicated and responsible addition to the leadership team!
On Milton teachers end year without contract

Contracts get settled when both sides agree to "do what is best for kids." Until then, not much can be done. There are many districts in which teachers believe in this wholeheartedly, and therefore the union and the district work together to solve problems and a contract is settled upon. You can't get something for nothing. If you want a raise, you may be giving up a bit of insurance and need to pay in a bit. If you want to keep your insurance policies the same, then your raise may not be as much. Most teachers believe they are teachers because it is what they were meant to do. Therefore, teachers should be thankful they have jobs that they love, and they have insurance that people of other professions are envious of. If you don't love teaching, and you are "in it for the money," maybe it's time to move on and get another job.

Being in a position where one must make hard decisions daily that effect a community is hard work. This person cannot simply please every person in the community, every day. Please remember that community leadership is not a job that many people are willing, or able to do, and that decisions must be made to better the community, not individuals with personal agendas.

As a soon-to-be-parent, I find it heartbreaking that my son or daughter will grow up among people who believe that ignorance, not subjectivity and consideration for the feelings of others, is a virtue.

On Janesville schools try alternative grading

I get the feeling that some of you believe that JPS is the only school district considering a change in the way our students are graded in school. Due to mandates by our government, many teachers (in many districts and states) have questioned whether existing/traditional methods of grading are measuring student growth in the way in which they should, in order to determine the proficiency level of each student in each concept that is being learned.
Considering change to an existing structure in any arena is usually considered to be a positive thing because this means someone has discovered that change must take place in order to move forward.
Although the new grading plan is not fully explained, I can only guess that the teachers behind it have the students' best intentions at heart. They want to make sure that what the students know and still need to learn is translated accordingly on a grading report. That way teachers, students and parents can be on the same page in terms of being aware of what their students/children do well and what they still need to learn.
