On North vs. Up North

PB594 - Highway 51 ends it's route North in Hurley, as I'm sure you know. 51 ends it's route South in New Orleans. "WHERE 51 ENDS AND THE FUN BEGINS" is true in both directions. I'll take either one, it's what's in between two that I'm not so sure about.

On North vs. Up North

When I moved from Fond du Lac to Janesville, my friends thought I was nuts (maybe I was). Some of them probably still think that Janesville is in Illinois. {:>)
Fondy is not "up North" but Janesville is certainley "down South".

On Council throws support to children's museum

hannah - Of the two responses I received so far, one seemed "canned" (from Amy L.) but one was a personal reply adressing my specific concerns. Thanks to Tom McDonald for taking the time.

On City council supports children's museum

spikesmom - We can make Janesville "user friendly for other businesses to want to set up shop here" by properly maintaining streets and parks, plowing snow instead of letting ice build up for a month (like on my street), supporting schools, and improving infrastructure. Skateparks, bike paths, and childrens playplaces are nice to have, but not until we can afford to address the "real needs" of the community.

lakennedy - It took a lot longer than five minutes. It took a half hour just to remove the cuss words, derogatory references, and outright insults before I could send the e-mail.
{:>)
By the way...I have received two responses so far...from Loasching and McDonald.

On Council throws support to children's museum

This is what I sent to the city council:

Council members:
I am so angry about your recent actions and comments that it is difficult to
even write this e-mail. I am especially upset with the comments by Amy
Loasching, who said:

“We are the ones who know what our vision is,” she said. “We’ve been elected by
the residents to … create a vision and see it through. … But I think we put it
to a referendum, and it dies.

1. Your vision is not the same as many Janesville taxpayers. I suggest you read
the comments to the Gazette articles published online.
2.You have been elected to represent the taxpayers, not special interest groups
who "need" a childrens museum.
3. You are correct is saying that if put to a referendum, it will die, as well
it should.

File this idea in the "stupid file" along with the waterpark and bike path
tunnel that we do not "need".

Fix the streets, plow the snow, maintain the parks, and tend to basic
infrastructure needs. Those are the valid needs.

Of the 60 plus comments on this article, almost all are against the childrens museum. Read also today's article and comments.
The committee and the council will probably never read our comments. Contact the City Council and express your views.

Here are the poll results from last November.
should Janesville have a childrens museum?
Yes 38% 146 votes
No 61% 233 votes
The steering committee didn't listen then and probably are not listening now. They made up their minds that they "NEED" a childrens museum whether or not the citizens of Janesville "want" one.
Hey committee members - why don't you folks post your comments on this forum?

friendofchildren - if you think a "place like this will be great", then you can help pay for it out of your pocket.
Just don't expect the taxpayers to pay for your kids 'playplace'.
