On Video: Flowering Janesville
Glen, I truly enjoy your work. You are very talented and the music in really nice. I find when I am under some stress, usually not very much as I am retired, I just call up your vidios and my mood changes.
On State Assembly approves junk food stamps bill
Should we decide that we can dictate what folks can eat because our tax dollar pays for it, we had better be prepared to tell police officers that they cannot eat doughnuts, military folks that they cannot smoke cigarettes, congressmen and women that they cannot drink alcohol and the list will go on and on. Who do we think we are? If people want to be fat they should be allowed to be fat. Perhaps people should start shopping for a country to live in that cares about people's freedoms. Who in the world are you people that have so little compassion for you fellow people to have the gall to say what a person can and can't eat? My guess is that most of the people on public assistance would rather have a nice job that pays well.
On I’m declaring moratorium on winter wear
Greg, Don't come running to me when you freeze your feet off.
On "Was this the worst week ever in USA history?”
Thirdeye, You might wish to enroll into a reading program. In no way did I say anything about Reagans health. Please read what i wrote again. When somebody who you have spent a lot of time with looks you in the eye and does not know who you are, that is some indication that there might be something wrong.
On Taking time to smell the roses
Packing in a bunch of stuff to do before you expire does not make a lot of sense to me. If you just set your mind to enjoy every minute of every day you will be happy without trying to take time to smell the roses, " Only the good die young " might mean that they have fulfilled all of the good things they were supposed to do and that was enough.
During the last year of Reagan's term I spent some time with him in The Rose Garden and I can say without a doubt, there were a few moments when he appeared to not even know where he was.
The worst week in U.S. History was the week Richard Nixon went to China and opened up trade.
On When classmates die too soon
Keep reading the obits and sooner or later you will see that the class bully has expired. It is not how long we live but what we do while we are alive. It is sad to see a good friend die and I can see that you, Greg, are sad. Most people don't want to get old but once we are old we want to get older.
On More accountability coming to comments
If I were to delete one aspect of my life it would be these blogs. After reading this one I realize what a total waste of time they are. I will continue to read the obits and that will be it for me. I wish you folks at The Gazette all of the best. You put out a really fine newspaper and I am sure you don't need all of the stupidity on these blogs.
Over the years I have found that many negatives can be turned into positives. The Gazette might wish to take a positive approach to what seems to be happening regarding answers to blogs. Rather than shutting people up, it might be a good tool to ad readership to let the comments fly, then close out the comments after a couple of days and have one of your more creative writers write about how the Gazette stands on the comments. Along with all of the negatives there are a few really good ideas and suggestions coming from the readers. You might actually gain readership rather than just saying sit down and shut up.
