Social workers are supposed to upheld the NASW Code of Ethics. One of the ethics is to never breach the boundary of helper and client. Mr. Knapp clearly failed to uphold ethics within a helper relationship. And as such, he is being punished for his mistake. To assume he took advantage of his client is inappropriate. The helper client relationship is very intense and personal. Things are shared in that environment that normally wouldnt be spoken. The relationship between a helper and client can get pretty close and keeping that boundary clearly laid out is the responsibility of the helper. That said, I am sure the client had full mental capacity and was aware of her actions and took full part in the act. Just because she is depressed does not mean she is stupid.

BostonBill:
Although I did not know the couple, I am a good friend of someone in the family who is closley related to one of the victims. I will not go into names as it is not important. I did write that comment in anger. It is extremely rude to say the least so call someone a monster when all the information is gotten in a few paragraphs. I directed my comment to the people who sit in their computer chairs and actually DID write mean comments about the situation. In fact the next post after I mine was rude. I just dont understand how people can make snap judgements about things they dont understand. I think when stories of extreme tragedies are involved...discussion posts like these should be omitted.

you know what? i am sick of people posting comments regarding subjects and people they have no idea about. all of you have no idea what was going on in those peoples lives or what was going on with their marriage. its easy to sit in your little computer chair and pass judgement on situations...isnt it? what if something happened to someone you love....would you like reading snobby or rude comments about what happened? honestly...have a little tact and compassion and keep your ignorant comments to yourself.
