On What to make of planned gravel pit

I prefer not to comment on the Klug Road matter. However, I am torn about the mine up north. I have empathy for the concerns of the Indians, as I am sure there will be environmental damage. On the other hand, that area of our state is severely underemployed, and I'm sure there are many people up there who would be happy to get one of the jobs it would bring.

On Though general store is no more, owners hope to reinvent historic building

It is too bad the store is closed. I think that places like Cooksville and Indian Ford have missed the boat when it comes to history sites. I remember how we went to Tibby's in Indian Ford for chicken on Sundays. I suppose fast food places do away with traditions like this.

On A walk in the snow

Beautiful Glen. You always do such a good job. The scenes and music are so restful, even though I don't really like winter, this makes it seem a little better.

On A new way to hold down health care for the aging?

Really. Do you have any hope that our government, at any level would do anything to save money? I worked in government for 30 years and I can tell you that they never do anything that is not self-perpetuating.

On How important is reducing national debt?

Posted on February 1 at 7:30 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I believe Paul Ryan lost the election for the Republicans. He, like many Republicans in Washington, are just too extreme. And, I might point out, I am a Conservative Republican. We have had debt problems before and we have solved them by simple methods, rather than the extreme measures Paul Ryan is pushing. As I said, he is too much of an alarmist and way to extreme. I long for the days of politicians who are more to the middle, and could work together to come up with reasonable solutions. Why does everything in Washington have to be so intense and devisive.

On Donald Driver's smile

Yes, it will not be the same without Donald Driver on the Packers. He had such an amazing skill and yet he was never obnoxious. He made those fantastic catches and did it with such style and class on and off the field. I will truly miss him, and the Packers will be less without him.

On Ryan says GOP need to pick its fights with Obama

Posted on January 26 at 7:42 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I believe one of the biggest reasons the Republicans lost the election was the radical changes Ryan proposed to Medicare and Social Security. He keeps referring to Social Security as an entitlement. It is not an entitlement. People pay into Social Security all the years of their working lives. They earn it, so it is not an entitlement.

On Is guns legislation reasonable?

Posted on January 25 at 6:23 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

We do not have a gun problem. We have a people problem. ACLU has made it impossible to treat people who show signs of being dangerous. In fact, they have more protection that ordinary citizens. We have a society that is turning away from God and who accepts violent behavior and entertainment as a way of life.

On Remembering the “good old days”

Posted on December 26 at 6:26 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I think what I remember most about the good old days is that things were much calmer and what seems to me much simpler than the complicated life we have now.
