On Wisconsin lawmaker arrested for OWI for third time

um...NO one in this state gets the "full penalty" for drunk driving. You can kid yourself, but that's ok. And yes, I understand the dynamics involved with alcoholism. I'm finding it ironic that one of the reasons we have such lenient drunk driving consequences is because of lawmakers in this state...and apparently one of the lawmakers in this state finds drunk driving to be an acceptable means of transportation. I find that more than appalling. You are entitled to your opinion. But that's mine.

FYI: I'm sure she meant when her children are grown and mature and wise enough to make the choice to use marijuana if/when they choose to. I am NEARLY 100% CERTAIN she did not mean that she wants her children to use marijuana as young children. That's just insane...It's meant as a thought to protect generations to come-not so her kids can get high at a party next weekend. Go Pot! :)

huh...perhaps it's "lawmakers" like him that keeps Wisconsin one of (if not THE) drunk-drivingest states...What an ironic turn of events. Perhaps he will be allowed 8 or 9 arrests like the other losers we see listed in the public record, before Wisconsin changes its policies on mistake vs. way of life...
On New 'judge' for Janesville expulsion cases recommended

I like how cases "generally" range from one to 22 hours. So, the average number of hours we pay is closer to 22 hours or closer to one hour per expulsion?
On Walworth County Jail officials struggle with capacity

I am with you, copland! IF Rock and Walworth Counties would actually impose a punishment that DETERS crime, perhaps the number of criminals would be reduced! But no...let's close the juvenile detention center, build a bigger jail and then complain that there's not enough room in the county hotel...gee, I wonder why everyone with the delinquency gene prefers jail to freedom...

I would love to believe that Justice Will Prevail, but time and reason grants that innocent until proven guilty sometimes allows the guilty to walk free. Incredibly frustrating! I'd hate to see them "get" the wrong guy (like in the first Avery case), but if they can prove they are guilty, please don't let them walk on a technicality!
On Juveniles vandalize gravestones in Edgerton

Pete, the boys told police they "accidentally knocked over a gravestone. They told police they saw how easy it was to knock over one stone and started knocking over more stones, he said." They knew it was wrong. They just didn't realize why. It's not like throwing a rock and breaking a window. Yes, it's destruction, but the gravestones don't hold the importance to a child that they do to an adult who may have lost a relative who's remains were buried there.
The crazy thing we have to remember is that there are Juvenile Laws that need to be upheld. And it seems to me that Juvenile Law encourages juvenile delinquents to place blame rather than accept it. It encourages delinquents to scream "unfair". What it DOESN'T do, which frustrates me to no end, is hold the parents responsible for neglecting to raise their children to respect authority and/or show respect to their elders. The children obviously knew what they were doing was wrong, but why were the children out "late Sunday night." Why are the parents not being charged with neglect as well as the children with vandalism and destruction of property?
With the Juvenile Detention Center's success rates (haha), I am concerned about the state of affairs. When are we going to stand up and say enough is enough with the delinquents getting very little consequences and start holding the parents responsible for the actions of their delinquent children? I do not mean have the parents pay the fines that their precious ones collect tickets for; I mean holding them responsible for passive teaching. Require parenting classes; require counseling; require social services check ins to ensure the parents know where their kids are and what they are up to, etc.
Yes, there are times when one child gives the parents total grief and the rest of the family acts responsibly; however, it is STILL the parent's responsibility to step up to the plate and get the help the child needs to become a productive member of society.

I could be wrong, but the last time I inquired about using criminals and delinquents to do some of the work around the county I was told that it was against the UNION rules. "having a non-union worker" doing work that is for the union worker is what starts grievances....blah blah blah...

On Post office changes routes in recession

"The consolidations have changed when some people get their mail, but the office hasn't received many complaints", Buchholz said.
Is it possible that they haven't received many complaints because you cannot FIND the phone number to the local post office in new phone books?! I know this because important mail was to be received on a particular day. We didn't have our mail delivered to our house until 7 pm. I appreciate that they DID deliver; however, it's somewhat pointless after "the close of business"...
Anyway, I tried to call to find out (after 5:30) why no mail when I knew what was expected...
