On Crises are handled case-by-case

Posted on August 19 at 1:50 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

This is a tragedy, no doubt. This points out the effect of systemic budget cuts relating to caring for the mentally ill. Rock County has washed its hands of wanting to fund proper programs to deal with mental illness and alcohol treatment. There have been numerous articles documenting the impact of these decisions on the community, law enforcement, and the patients themselves.

You get what you pay for.

On City installing new manhole covers

Wow, some of you folks are really bitter.

Nero.. you are right on the money with how these are made.

If only some of this bitterness could be harnessed to a productive means.

<sigh>

On Del Taco restaurant will open today on Milton Avenue

If you want good local flavor, Milton has more per capita than Janesville. I stumbled across a great seafood place... Whitewater Pier. Not a huge place and definitely not upscale, but the menu is diverse and the food is excellent. Not only is the wait staff incredibly friendly, but the night we were there, the waiter actually sung a variety of ethnic folk songs as he served. Very unique and quirky place... Also, there is a fish market attached to it to. Good selection!

On Former councilman asks council to step up

Maybe Briarmoon could become city manager? She has all the anwers. She was willing to accept a council position for $0, maybe she could do the same as city manager. Then Steve could go to every council meeting and berate her for doing (not) her job!

On Teachers OK new contract in closest vote in JEA history

I have tremendous respect for the work that teachers do. Regretably, they do have to raise too many children when parents are unwilling or unable to do so.

With that said, I grow very tired of anyone complaining about having to kick in for their health insurance. Every year, in every sector, the cost of health care goes up, and the cost to the employee goes up.

If people are unhappy with the benefits or salary they receive, they do have choices. If people are in the teaching profession for the money, then they are in it for the wrong reason.

I have a hunch that complaints of inefficiency and mismanagement of money may be slightly exaggerated, but they do exist. In an adversarial situation, it is common to throw out inflamatory accusations to gain attention.

ANY government agency is wrought with inefficiencies. At the end of the day, all taxpayers pay the price for this.

On Union-busting allegations disputed

What's the big deal? Unions in a retail environment do nothing except cost consumers in the pocket-book. We have a free market economy. Why should anyone get paid a ridiculous wage for being able to stock a shelf or chase carts in a parking lot? Whats wrong with a greedy businessman? It amazes me how the cowards criticize the successful businessman because he is successful. Last time I checked, most card-carrying union people do not have a financial stake in any venture except to suck it dry for every penny and then wonder why businesses want to always bust unions.

Think about it.

On Long-time Janesville restaurant will close

Posted on February 9 at 1:15 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

Another indication of a restaurant not changing with the times. The quality of service has been going down hill for several years. Any time we placed an order for pickup, it is never ready. The fact that they never accepted credit (debit) cards, never included beverage into the cost of the buffet, and self-service for soda are good examples. I am sad to see it go. They provided really good variety and their pizza really tasted different (and better) than most of the pizza joints in town.

It would be great if someone could buy the building and put in a really good steak/seafood place. To get a good meal, you need to drive out of town to get quality and value. JUST DONT PUT ANOTHER CHAIN RESTAURANT IN THERE!
