On Family still looking for missing man

Posted on November 15 at 8:36 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

This does say the family is STILL seeking help, meaning they asked for help before. This is just the first time I'VE seen this info. Perhaps it was in the paper before, but just didn't hit the online version in a "front page" link.

On Post office preparing for the holiday rush

Excellent suggestions. As a former Post Office employee, I also recommend putting clear tape over your address and the address that you're sending to (in case your packaging tape doesn't do this) in case the package gets wet! Will protect the address and keep it from smearing! DON'T tape over your stamps! They are considered "used" that way.

packfan66 - Well said:) Although deep down inside, I hope Brett's lawnmower sacks him when he's not looking. :)

On Do you support efforts to build a casino in Beloit?

I can "afford" to go (as long as I set limits). For 95% of people, it's a harmless diversion from life. There's gonna be that 5% who "over-do" in most everything (eating, smoking, drinking, driving fast, gambling, etc etc etc). The casino had better have video keno!

So does anyone else think that white boy in the back wasn't supposed to be there???? This is frightening!!! Have they checked for other missing children in the area?

On Name of Rock County fatal released

How very, very sad no matter whose "fault" it was. I'm sure the other driver feels absolutely terrible no matter how the accident played out. The blink of an eye can change lives forever.

On A $250 donation

I'm sure the discount is because most "seniors" AREN'T employed. (Or if they are, it's because their financial situation demanded they work or skip some bills). They're already dealing with the fact that their bodies are slowing down and that they've hit "the top of the hill" and have begun what could be a rapid descent to the end of their ride here on Earth. Give 'em the discount! Let them escape to the movies. If I owned the theater, anyone over 65 would get in free.

Perhaps a funeral home in town would let them work off some community service with them. THAT might make 'em think. Learn a little respect for those recently passed.

Stop correcting a person's mistake and then make your own! Good grief. As for the STORY, I wish someone on the Gazette staff would do a piece on past vandals around the area and find out what consequences resulted from those incidents. It would be interesting to know if all were held accountable and if restitution was required and if it was PAID. Do we just let them all "slip through the cracks" like multiple offense drunk drivers? Perhaps another small town somewhere (even in another state) came up with a really good solution when it happened to them.

On How would you rate the importance of spelling?

Posted on October 12 at 7:55 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I figure if someone can get 99.5% of what they type or write to be error-free, they're doing really well. I was playing online Scrabble with a high school teacher and she used the wrong "to". Of course, once I giggled and pointed it out, she KNEW it was wrong but had just had the normal "brain fart". However, my 23 year old step-daughter (who, somehow, will be graduating from college in December) writes at the level of a junior high student. It makes me want to cry. How do kids get through school that poorly educated? (She's a good kid; not trouble or hard to discipline.) *sigh*
