On Giving those less fortunate a hand up
Posted on June 3 at 12:13 p.m. ( Suggest removal )
Doesn't anyone have a heart anymore? What happen to helping your neighbor? To me, I could give a hoot less about the adults, but the kids need food, shelter, clothing, school supplies, medical care, etc. It is not their fault! Every agency that helps the less fortunate does a check on the persons income and bills and then helps them. Where would the food they get donated go if they didn't give it to people so they could eat? Should we throw it away? As for people in better cars, better phones, etc., did you ever think that maybe they paid for or were given the car before disaster struck or bought the phone off of Craigslist, etc. I don't begrudge people having more than me. I also drive a beater, wear hand-me-downs or rummage sale clothes and eat sensibly, but I do not deny anyone a "hand up" as Mr. Peck has so kindly put it.

I am with you, westorbust. What is with this "innocent" crap? He knows and knew exactly what is going on in "his" office. What is with this painting a pic of him with a halo? Makes me sick. Oh.....sorry I missed the yogurt, I would have threw it up on his shoes given the chance!

Thats what I say, westorbust. What is with the defense of he didn't know what was going on? If he is such a good candidate for Governor and an angel with a halo, why all the crap going on? And oh...so sorry I missed him putting yogurt on my plate, I probably would have pretended to get sick and throw up on his shoes! LOL

He doesn't know what "these people did?" They are his employees for goodness sakes! How couldn't he know what they did? That is like saying your boss doesn't know when you take lunch or when you get paid. That is an awful comparison! What "he did and didn't know"? Wow, now I have heard it all!

Sigma, create your own fun. I do. Read a book, sit on the porch and chat with neighbors, go fishing, etc. Not everything cost money. I love fishing and I love reading. This is where our kids/grandkids get the statement "I'm bored!" Find something to do or be bored, it is your choice.

I guess with all the rambling I just did, I am just trying to point out that landlords need to give people a chance and they wouldn't have empty rental property. Plain and simple.

I have rented in Janesville for 30 of my 48 years here on earth. I have dealt with slumlords and landlords who care. I will tell you there are more money hungry slumlords than ones who care. Just an example: 2 adults in a one bedroom apartment that costs $700 monthly, $150 for power and lights, $60 for water every 3 months, basic home phone, approx. $30.00 a month all on an income of less than $1500 a month. Doesn't leave much to buy groceries, gas, laundry, basics, car payment, etc. Then like luckyduck said, look at the rentals in the Gazette, some are over $2000 a month! That is ludicrous in this economy and especially in Janesville, I would love to call these landlords and ask them "who in the h_ll do you think can afford that amount of rent?" With this economy people are moving in together, families or just renting out rooms or basements to others to help pay the bills. It is a never ending circle with no door to get out of. As for the lady with the daughter who has a felony on her record, who cares? If I was a landlord I would consider what the felony was for, maybe have the parent co-sign and then go visit where she lives now. A drug dealer can have perfect credit and a huge bank account but that doesn't mean they are good tenants just because they have money. I would base it on how they take care of the bills where they live now and how well they keep their home/apartment they are leaving. I don't even care if it is an eviction because you will never know why they were evicted in the first place. Could even be just that the landlord/slumlord had a bug up their butt and want the people out so they can get new tenants and charge more rent. I know I am babbling but the issue of rentals is a mystery to me, why are landlords so anal? Just asking.

And sjra, your vote is only counted off of the computer you are on. If you go to a different computer it will record it again.

I believe all schools and government buildings should have metal detectors at all entrances and a person or two to take a post there. Parker did that at entrances when I worked there.
