max-i never said christians were narrow minded, hard hearted, judgemental prudes. My whole family are christians. My kids are. I don't make broad generalizations. I respond to certain posters and in that response-I do not include every christian.

You said individuality is the same as being selfish. Then you said it's ok in the family. It is a little confusing when you contradict yourself.
I find that contradiction is the basis of religious arguements. That way you're never wrong.
Off to work-have a good night!

I don't remember claiming to be upset. Anyway,
it's easy to be 'right' when the very religion and book that 'teaches' it is soooo inconsistent. Follow the bible! No, not that testament. Follow the bible! No, that verse was written for the time-doesn't apply now. This one does though. Or I can say it does, anyway.
I also would like to point out that being an individual and being social are not opposite.
I'm offering my perspective, if you want to drop discussing your perspective so easily (when it's something you feel so strongly about) don't put it on my shoulders.

oh-And in doing what I want-I don't punch people in the nose. I don't rape, murder or pillage-because I make those choices-as an atheist.

I do what I feel is right all the time. Guess what-I've made a positive impact on people's lives.
Being individual is wrong? I wear clothes that aren't in style because I like them. I must be evil.
Don't bother quoting the bible or talking about the bible with me-I'm atheist and over 33 years of hearing more than one side of the story I've come to my own conclusion. I must be a bad person then. So be it.
I remember hearing once or a hundred times god made people and gave them free will. Autonomy is wrong? Then so was god I guess.

Now it's not just christian against people like me, or people of other religions, it's christian against christian.
Wait, it's been like that for a very long time.
Just don't rock the boat. Worship how that lady wants you to, or that guy wants you to. It's not good enough for THEM for you to worship if THEY don't agree how you do it.
What a judgemental group of individuals. Not individuals-you're not allowed to be individual, my bad.

Matt-I think you're assuming that people will try to make less to get this help rather than trying to make more to help themselves.
Some people might-but don't lump everyone together.

Pete, look a little further. The kids share the roller blades. Being poor doesn't mean you shouldn't indulge your children in a toy at some point. Maybe she saved up a long time. Maybe they were a gift. But, hey, they're poor. They shouldn't enjoy anything in life.
We can all guess and assume how one becomes poor-but we aren't in their shoes.
