One year is pathetic. And this guy just wants to move on? He and the girlfriend should get much longer sentences.

On Bus drops kindergartner miles from home

Posted on September 3 at 3:23 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

Yes, I am sure everyone was in a panic but it happens. I would make sure she gets a kiss and get her back on the bus in the morning. And I am sure the school will be more careful to get her home safely in the future. The parents just need to spend a little time getting her over it. No major trauma unless you make it into more.

P.S. to NO, birthmother is a respectful term used to distinguish the woman who carried a child and gave birth from the Mom who is the parent and raises the child in a forever family. They are not the same.

On Family: Police let down victims

Posted on August 21 at 11:42 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I feel such sorrow for these families involved. They are still in shock. It is normal to look to assign blame.
I interpret what I've read in the articles to show this as another domestic violence case. Unfortunately I lost my sister in 1995 when her husband beat her to death as she was thinking about leaving the marriage. Gee, and her husband got help for being suicidal too-about a month before killing her. It's worth looking into to see if everything was done that should have been. Ultimately though I think this was a man who felt like he was losing control. D.Violence info. says when a woman is about to leave a relationship is the most dangerous time. They often don't think it will get that bad. She made a horrible mistake letting him take her car with the gun in it! Unfortunately too these families probably won't be so united when all the shock wears off. Prayers for all.

On Janesville officer teaches Spanish to cops nationwide

Posted on August 21 at 11:12 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I'd love to see a copy of this text. I've trained law enforcement officers in MI, GA and NC in the past with Command Spanish texts. Not sure if they are still the best. I hope officer Sullivan is giving some cultural training to his fellow law enforcement officers as well. I think he will be very successful and the fact that he is in law enforcement is fantastic. To those who say that all those Spanish speakers should be learning English -yes. The fact is that to do their jobs safely and to create positive relations Spanish helps.

On City council supports children's museum

Posted on August 13 at 11:34 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

As the Mom of 4 young children, I do not support a Children's Museum in Janesville. I go to Rockford or Madison for those trips. I have a membership to the Shedd in Chicago too. I just don't think that I would take my kids more than occasionally if a museum were here in town and we can't compete with the larger cities. I'm all for culture and bringing something to improve Janesville, I just don't think that this is the right thing. And yes, losing jobs here makes it seem like poor timing.

On A new foreign language? At what cost?

Posted on August 11 at 11:57 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I believe all school districts should consider the addition of foreign languages such as Chinese or Arabic. French and German are important languages but are really not the languages that are important in today's world. Education needs to change with the times. The view that kids in Janesville should not be taught languages they won't use here is such as disservice to our students. I learned Spanish in the Janesville schools and worked in an international career that my family could never have imagined. Thank goodness I was not held back by small town attitude. We need to plan ahead and beyond Janesville. The rest of the world is leaving us in the dust when it comes to preparing our students to compete in a global economy.

On Scoring a victory over Japanese beetles

Now I'm bummed. I went to that really nice garden store we have here which I won't name. The employee assured me that I could use the j.b. traps and that it was okay to hang them near my plants. My whole yard is plants. She said that the lure with the trap is so much more intense than any flowers that they would go to the trap first. And yes my two traps were half full in a day. GROSS. Does anyone know what size area they attract from??? Maybe I could move them to a back corner of the lot or maybe just get rid of them.

On Where’s Bessie?

I agree. I wouldn't want to take a photo of it with a taco restaurant or Menards in the background. I don't know where downtown they would put it, but a more green location would be more appealing.

On Baby died while being breast-fed

My sympathies to the family for this terrible tragedy. Having breastfeed all 3 of my babies through their first years, I know how easy it is o fall asleep. This is just pure tragedy and I pray for this Mother. I hope she has good support/counseling to get past this horrible accident. It happens and it's sad.

On Del Taco restaurant will open today on Milton Avenue

Janesville is a steak and potatoes kind of town. It's been fun to think about Jville getting a White Castle. Keep the jokes coming. A bag of hot sliders would be great about now. I think they'd go over well here once people caught on. But what we really need is for the folks who operate the Mediteranean Cafe on State street to open up here! Great inexpensive food. I was up there on Tuesday and there were students and working people lined up out the door. Of course Janesville is not diverse thinking enough to support that type of food. I'll stop by whenever I can in Madison. Oh, and how about a good Gyros place like Parthenon in Madison???
