On Did relative's hiring cause problems at ice arena?

Your council is responsible for not holding Scheiffer accountable. They should hire a completely out of the area attorney firm with a great reputation for governmental and employment law to do a complete and independant investigation into wrong doing and then should there be any found go directly to the Attorney General as the Rock County District Attorney is not dependable enough to do what's right. He has shown time and time again his bias's and refusal to equally prosecute.

It does not shock me at all that your tyannistic city manager thinks it's okay as your council has no power. If he was a mayor he would be on front page news of the paper(well maybe not the gazette)for favoratism. It also goes to show how out of touch the council members are with written policies, non-written policies, plus not acting when they become aware of such shenanigans way back in APRIL. Then lets deal with the mangers comment about "assumed" now we should all know how wrong that is, right?? Those jobs should beyond common sense go to the most qualified and those with needs. He says "companies do it". Well these are not taxpayer based. So even though lets says I pay taxes and don't work for the city and my neighbor does as well but works for the city my child won't get hired because I don't already make my living off the taxpayers. Now wouldn't simple common sense tell you that's just wrong?? It does not pass the smell test of decency folks, especially of your thank god out going manager???

It's all about the rich getting rid of the middle class. This has been in the works for many years. Only a depression or revolution by those being supressed will end this take over.
On Does poverty = crime? Scholars disagree

Scholars know very little and have very little street knowledge if any at all. They sit in big offices and produce papers and studies based on others crime figures. Much like proffessors who get huge salaries and do very little if any actual class room teaching. T/A's do the teaching. Poverty and crime are hand in hand and this comes from 24 years of boots on the ground experience. It boils down to the scholars and big money criminal justice backers who keep their head in the sand to keep the entity going for the sake of jobs. The story about the single parent in poverty yet her frig had more BEER and SODA in it than food. It about priorities and chiild rearing. If one can't afford one child why in the world would one have three more!! Until we raise the poverty level and the minimum wage which the politicians and big money people don't want either because then others may live better, things will out the same for those high living money people.

gazette fan - I always appears that the people don't feel heard much as with our own federal government. But, in the local government it is much easier at this point to run for an office or at least vote someone out routinely if there is low response during that term. I say at this point because as we've all seen what used to be an easy office to run for at county level is soon to be harder as more money gets involved in the elections. State offices were at one time a viable office for the common person, but has since become a multi-million dollar affair due to money influences. It was just on the PBS station tonight that the state legislators spent only 39 days in session yet spent 79 days on vigorus campaigning for money to get re-elected. Yet most voters will vote for the failed incumbent rather than make a change. I refuse to vote for incumbants unless they have a positive record which is next to impossible to find.

Janesville needs a mayor so that he/she answers to the people folks!!! Then the PEOPLE dicide rather he/she is doing their job not some brainwashed council powered by the money influences instead of the taxpayers. If Janesville citizens want to be heard they must elect not appoint. A manager does what he/she wants and then directs the council on how to get it done. You've watched htis crap far long enough I would think.

We should NEVER give up an elected position for an appointed one!!! That is when the people simply loose more rights and voting for those poitions are the peoples right. Appointments create options for corruption and favors to the special few. Never give up your american right to vote.

Good god a great light at the end of the tunnel. Why does not the city help small businesses as they are with this new company?? $1 land, super low interest rate and tax incentives Hmmmmm Now, lets hope the union doesn't go in there and run themselves out of a job. Good for Helgeson. Maybe the city should have them for their City Manager and promoter instead of the "usual has beens". Hell-o Govenor!!!!
