ljs64...I guess the joke is on YOU! Maybe you should enlighten yourself with the wonders of the internet (and the ability to fix things on the fly) before you spout off and accuse people of being ignorant. Geesh...

wow1234 -- we're talking about the caption under the picture under the photo of the man spraying the lawn. The caption has been changed now, but when the article first went up on the website, it referred to Mrs. Beyer's husband by name twice.

So, way to go, Gazette editors....in the article, it says that Cheryl asked that her husband's name not be used. But in the caption under the photo, it clearly states her husband's name. Guess the proofreaders were taking a snooze this afternoon.

For starters, chemical_6, you can't hunt in the dark and this took place at 4 a.m. But shining deer in general is illegal, I believe.
On Customer service shines through for once

Greg, many customer service people are trained to do that (handle the call first and face-to-face person second). The logic behind it is that the face-to-face person can see that the clerk is busy with a phone call. The caller, however, cannot see that the clerk is helping someone. I managed one of the Beloit motels many moons ago and that was part of our extensive training for front desk clerks...ALWAYS take the phone call first, even if it means interrupting the converation that you're having with someone at the counter.

Sluggo...when my husband and I were at Hooter's a couple of weeks ago, we were served by a pregnant waitress. My son worked at Hooter's as a busboy when he was in high school. I found his "employee handbook" and took a look at it. There was reference to appearance (must wear the uniform and be clean and well-kept), but there was no mention of gaining weight being a cause for termination.

As someone who went back to school as an adult (I was 26), I can attest to the fact that it's definitely hard work. For me, it was juggling school, family, full-time work and a new marriage. I went back to college to get a better job, so I wasn't faced with having to return because I'd lost my job. But nonetheless, even if a full-time job isn't involved, it's still hard work...at any age.
You couldn't be more right about it bringing a special kind of stress into the adult student's family life. My marriage didn't survive because of the time commitment involved in being an adult student. Let's just say that hubby looked elsewhere for attention that he wasn't getting at home. :-)
But I have no regrets and wouldn't change anything. I started my 4-year degree (on the 10-year plan) at U-Rock in 1992, and in 2003, I graduated from UW-Milwaukee.
I couldn't be more proud of my accomplishments!

I agree! Please layoff the ALL CAPS. It's very annoying and I think I'm going to stop reading your blogs because of them.

On NFL moves Vikings-Packers game to 3:15

PEOPLE!!! Governor Doyle, the Packers and the Brewers had nothing to do with it! The NFL moved the game so that if the Phillies make the world series, the city does not erupt in chaos when the football game between the Eagles and Giants is getting out at the same time that the crowds would be arriving for the potential World Series game. They're being proactive to avoid choas in Philly.
