On Brodhead school referendum fails

I'm sure some activities will be saved somehow, but the district will lose students regardless.
I would bet that a good number of parents/students will go elsewhere and are not going to stick around to see what the school is going to do.

Also... most/all of the Board members that "don't even have a clue about some of the sports they oversee" were HS/college coaches and have an extensive history in athletics.
I would say they have a clue...
Maybe do some research first, there is background info for each available on the WIAA website.

The sport rules you reference originate from one the following: the National Federation, a committee made up of state coaches, and/or WI coaches associations for that particular sport. The WIAA Board can't simply put a rule into place just because they want to. They are an organization run by their members (i.e. AD's, coaches, etc...).
Don't blame the WIAA Board for something you don't like. There is always a reason behind the rule.
I believe most of their meetings are already open and there are press releases to the media all the time, including financial info.
I think one area of concern with going open-records is the officials rankings that coaches do, it would be difficult to get honest rankings if everyone was able to access how a coach ranked everyone.

Many are already filing their open-enrollment papers instead of waiting for this vote.
Sounds like many feel other cuts should come first and will be voting NO.
If cuts need to happen and extra-curriculars are to be saved, where will the cuts come from... cutting staff and electives... that isn't a good option either.

podparkviewalum: It is apples to oranges, and for you to think otherwise, is ignorant!
Maybe the following will help you understand why.
As already mentioned, the strength of this team is their depth. Because of this depth, the JV coach has a team that is more talented than almost every team they play. I'm sure there are girls on that JV team that would play a lot on other varsity teams.
The JV coach is a fine coach, I'm not trying to take anything away from her, it is an awesome feat, but a JV record doesn't mean she should be the varsity coach...
I'll also 2nd some of coach12's comments.

...and it is an attitude like that which will keep your athletic teams from ever getting to the next level.
I've had the chance to see your girls basketball team play a number of times and I think they are a very skilled and well-coached team. As far as unnoticed talent, I don't agree that it is unnoticed - they are all very talented. It's difficult to manage a deep team like yours that is talented from top to bottom. With that kind of talent, a coach doesn't know what lineup combination is going to work best from one game to the next and changes should be expected.
Too many adults don't realize that you need EVERYBODY to buy in and be supportive (no matter what the results) or their sports programs will not be as successful as possible.
Negativity from parents at home rubs off and goes a long way to ruining the confidence players have in their coaches, which will ruin any chance of success for the team. (wasn't it some of your parents that tried running this coach out last year because they lost in the playoffs???) What kind of support is that showing the kids on the team?
Let the coaches do their job (coach the team) and you do your job (support the team no matter what the result)!

Congrats Nick, you are a class act and a role model for young kids to look up to.
Now go show the rest of your WIAA regional what Parkview (and the RVC) basketball is all about!
