On Police shoot pit bull

Posted on September 5 at 7:48 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I find it interesting that so many people are against the APBT, when in fact it ranks 6th in a long list of the top agressive dogs, and you would be suprised at which ones are on it. I pasted a copy of a report that came out earlier this year. I also included a link , if you can't click on it then check out channel 3 wisc website.

Citing a study published by Applied Animal Behavior Science, the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph reported that one in five dachshunds has bitten or tried to bite strangers, and one in 12 has shown aggression toward its owners.

The study involved researchers from the University of Pennsylvania. About 6,000 dog owners were questioned about their dogs' behavior. Thirty-three breeds were ranked on their aggression.

Ranking below the dachshund was an even smaller dog, the Chihuahua. According to the newspaper, research found that the tiny breed often snaps at most beings it encounters -- including its owners, strangers and other dogs.

They may not look as threatening as some of the larger canine, but research revealed that the dachshund is the most aggressive breed of dog.

The Jack Russell terrier was third, followed by the Akita and the Australian cattle dog. The pit bull was sixth, followed by the beagle, the English springer spaniel, the border collie and the German shepherd.

On Bus drops kindergartner miles from home

Posted on September 3 at 11:02 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

First f all I want to say what an awaful thing that was to happen on the first day of school. However I can see that mistakes do happen, I myself have gotten on the wrong school bus as a kid. I know how easy it is to look away for a moment and miss where your line is and get into the wrong bus. Like I said I did it once myself.
*
I hope Gracie overcomes her fears and is able to enjoy riding the bus again.

Oh I almost forgot...if you have kids, there is usually a rope maker up in the pavillon that lets kids make their own jump rope. It is a fun free thing for the little ones to do.

Purrmaid:Don't forget the embarassment on the owners face if they have to be pulled out by a rival tractor LOL...Last year a International had to be pulled up hill by a John Deere...oh my that was quite the talk of the day.
*
That sure led to the weekend long dicussion of which tractor "breed" is best.
*
My favorite part of the Thresheree is working at the cormmeal shed. I get to meet people from all accross the country and even a few visitors from other countries.
*
It is always fun to see the look on newcomers faces as they see an actual steam engine drive by, or a threshing demonstration. I know many visitors recall stories of their own youth when they had threshers come to their farms to work.

Don't forget to check out the fresh ground cornmeal and buckwheat that the Thresheree sells. You can watch it being ground and take it home for some awesome corn muffins or buckwheat pancakes.

I gaurentee you will never get it any fresher than being ground right before your eyes.

On A plea to grocery-shopping gurus

The dent n bent in Albany is called Detwilers. It is run by the Amish. There is also a store around the corner from them that is a bulk store for things such as chocolate chips, noodles, baking supplies, powdered soup etc... It is also run by the Amish.
*
I am not sure the name of the road that the Dent n bent is on... I do know how to get there. From Janesville take hwy 11 towards footville, turn right onto cty hwy b at Footville, keep going straight until you reach the end where you can only turn left or right. Make a RIGHT turn at the stop sign and then a quick LEFT turn. Go about a 1/2 block or so down and it is on the Left hand side. They are closed on Sundays, holidays and some of their religious days.
*
The bulk store is located right near by. Turn right off of B at the stop sign and it is the white house with the harness shop on the left hand side.

On My biggest pet peeve

The only time I have watered my lawn was when my daughter was really little and we would let her run through the sprinkler. Other than that I don't water except my veggie garden.
*
Besides who could afford to pay for the water bill? I am lucky I live in the country and have a well, but still I have to pay for the electricity for the pump, and I would rather save that money than let it go into the ground.

On Rotary Gardens to charge fee

Posted on August 27 at 9:41 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

exactly a $1.00 or $2.00 fee would have been a lot more acceptable,But not $5.00. Just wait till the tour bus's and out of towners learn of this fee. I bet many people will stop comming altogether.
*
I know I can't afford a $5.00 fee everytime my family decides to go look at the gardens, especialy when we were on our bike rides and decided to have a picnic there. I never minded donating a couple of bucks, but not not 5.00 a person.Guess we will just have to keep on riding to Palmer park and enjoy our picnics there.

On Rotary Gardens board wants to charge an admission fee

hannah: Thanks for the info. I can see why it would be misleading to many when the hear Rotary International Gardens and with the 2 local Rotary clubs meeting there one would assume that they are indeed conected.

On Should the Janesville city council allow Rotary Gardens to charge admission?

Posted on August 24 at 2:06 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I have a question that maybe someone here can answer. Isn't the Rotary Gardens pond part of the public water ways? I.e. fishing for trout and such, if so how are they going to be allowed to charge a admittance fee. I thought access to public water ways had to be free???
*
This is what my brother had asked me when I told him about the idea that Rotary gardens wanted a fee. He thought that all public water ways in WIsconsin had to have free access to them, especially if they are stocked by the State with trout and other fish.
