On Debit card scam hits Beloit

Yep, I got the same call last week. Just hung up and called the bank. The problem is it only takes a very small percentage of folks giving their info to make it profitable.

On Wetland mowing angers Elkhorn residents

Looks to me somebody at the city of Elkhorn was bored and looking for something to mow. That's the Midwestern way though, "mow it flat, by god", it looks better that way.

On Report: Troops needed to avoid Afghan failure

What exactly is "victory" in Afghanistan? Is it still about Bin Laden? 8 years after 9/11 and the most powerful nation on earth couldn't find one man? Do we expect Afghanistan to be a democracy?

Extremists will just move on to some other war torn country, take root, and continue as always. Global poverty and lack of any serious education are the long term issues we need to look at. Ironically, those are the same issues America has yet to full deal with here.

On Beloit teen killed in shooting

"It is Beloit, what do you expect? Roses and white ponies?"

That's insensitive as well as idiotic. Beloit and Janesville are less than 10 miles apart. If you think it's strictly a "Beloit" problem, you are sorely mistaken. As this recession continues to gut southern Wisconsin for jobs, Janesville will go the way of Beloit. A nice little town with no jobs. I've lived here long enough to know that "It's Beloit, what do you expect" is code for "That's where the black people live." Someone just lost a daughter to senseless violence, how about a little respect?

No it's the internet and we can be mean, rude and post anonymously.

On Good things sprouting from admission fee at Rotary Gardens

Posted on September 14 at 4 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I understand the admission fee, but I have never seen anything at the gardens that's worth the single $5 fee, or for me, the $15 family fee. Some of it is interesting, however the trash and scum floating in the pond kind of defeats the purpose, not to mention the fact that if you've seen it once, why go again? Yes, I understand there are free days, but like I said, once you've seen it, then what?

I understand that hard work that goes into the gardens, but it seems to cater to a relatively small interest group of gardeners and those that fascinated with flowers.

Frankly, I find a natural prairie filled with wild flowers, native plants and wildlife vastly more interesting that man made flower beds.

The Xmas and Halloween events are interesting, but beyond that I don't get it.

It's great they are relatively self sustaining, so somebody is going.

Personally, with a town such as Janesville that has little or nothing to offer kids to do in the summer I would suggest a skate park/dirt jump park, like almost every other surrounding community has. And people wonder why the kids around here spend all their time drinking and smoking.

On Job center specialist won't give up on his Janesville family

Posted on September 10 at 4:11 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

That's all great Beloit3, but as a "dislocated worker" that wasn't a part of the auto industry it took me nearly 5 months to get an appointment with a counselor about going back to school. Since then, he has not returned my phone calls or emails....ever. So now, since he messed up my paperwork to attend school and I can't get a hold of him to change it, I'm screwed. So I don't bother with job center or dislocated worker program anymore, I'll do it myself, as I probably should have from the beginning. Have a nice day.

On Milton's largest private employer lays off 30

Gladiator is correct. I am one of those laid off. FGS contracts with companies like Staff on Site to provide a large number of very cheap employees, illegals, or pretty much anyone with a pulse. While the temp services hire the employees, companies like Freedom Graphics also bear responsibility utilizing companies that hire them. It's not like they didn't know. Over the past months many of the illegals left due to SSN verification issues with their respective temp services.

On an entirely different note, I'm sure that those temps will get a phone call to return to work long before I get one. The temps were still working when they gave me my termination papers. Thanks.
