You drive like an ... AMES!!!!!
It took me a half an hour to get to Clinton High School for an interview this afternoon.
I'd like to blame the construction on Highway 140. But I took County J.
The truth is, I drive like my dad.
Many people around here remember my dad, Dave Ames, former field man for Seneca Foods.
His job was to contract fields for vegetables and supervise planting, spraying and harvesting, among other things.
One thing Dad did a lot of (and still does) is drive around looking at crops. I don't think he can drive without constantly scanning fields.
Neither can I, apparently.
My train of thought on the way to Clinton was something like: "Is there any corn up? ... Huh. That wheat doesn't look too bad ... I wonder if I know that guy in the tractor? ... Is that Frank down there in Sweet-Allyn Park? ... What about this field? Corn up??"
That's why I take the back roads to Clinton. Because to observe all that, you have to drive about 48.
Wait until fall, when I obsessively scan every tree line for deer.

Thats nothing Ann Marie,
My best friend (a farmgirl too) and I were driving to Fargo ND about 12 years ago for a week long conference and played name what kind of farm is next all the way across Minn. We let our noses tell us what kind of animals they had. Its amazing what one will do when bored with nothing on the radio in order to stay awake lol.
Oh and by the way the 2 of us can't drive anywhere together with out looking at the crops and discussing how the year is progressing =)~
