The blotter

By TED SULLIVAN   Monday, July 27, 2009 - 11:56 a.m.

He wasn’t driving a combine

A man on South Oakhill Road in Rock Township saw a car plowing through a wheat field.

The driver told deputies he had been drinking and made a “wrong turn.”

He damaged the crop. He was ticketed for criminal damage to property and trespassing with a motor vehicle.

Maybe they flew away

A 76-year-old woman on Woodruff Boulevard in Janesville told police two lawn ornaments were missing from her front yard. They were large, “very heavy” concrete swans. She had them for years.

Bad kitty, bad kitty

A woman on Lexington Drive in Janesville reported a loose cat wandering around her yard.

The cat’s name was Lil’ Girl. She was defecating and digging up plants.

Lil’ Girl didn’t have vaccination paperwork or a city license. Her owner was warned.

Neighborhood bullies

A Clinton man told the sheriff’s office loose pit bulls were in his neighborhood. The dogs had killed his cat.

Oddly enough, it appears that the cat's name was "JUSTIN".

Please tell me the woman with the swans....wasn't one of those who dressed them up, depending on the occasion.
For some reason, that always creeped me out.
I'll dress up my cat, and even force my husband into a suit against his will. But I would never dress up a concrete statue.
Even that (and if you knew me it would surprise you) is past what I would do.

I don't understand the comic relief in the pit bull story??

LOL...If you go as far as taking pics of yellow snow, your life has hit a way new low.

(Wow, a rhyme. Frank Zappa look out!)

Oh, and Teddy looks a bit tipsy in that graphic. The flashing lights in the background is a nice touch.

I can just imagine the on-duty police getting the call on the kitty. I bet they jumped at that one all at the same time.

I'm a little irritated that once again ANOTHER city ordinance is not being enforced. The fine for an unlicensed pet in the city limits is $249. The license is only $5. Why is it so difficult for police to actually enforce these ordinances and fine the owner of the cat? Will they be checking back in a few days to see if the owner actually did get a license? I know that there are bigger issues going on in Janesville, but if nobody is willing to enforce the little things, why bother having these ordinances and laws?

Keep up the good work, Ted!!

So far, I like the feel of this blog. It reminds me of a small-town blotter I use to enjoy on the West Coast.

I must admit, though, as a citizen of this county I find it disturbing that no DUI citation was made in the wheat field incident. Operating while intoxicated should always receive a citation. For shame on the Rock County/Janesville Police.

So the guy in the field didn't get a DUI?

Hmmm.

Frankly, I would be embarassed to call the police to say that a cat was pooping. I'm just sayin.

Good grief, what an unnecessary comment, SpongeBob.
.
Janesville is not exactly excitement central, even on the police blotter, so I'll take what amusement is there.

Don't be so hard on Theodore, he is just quoting from the police reports. You have to put it perspective. The reason cops are cops is because they failed 9th grade lit. Thank your lucky stars they are not working for the school district. You really ought to feel sorry for the Captain who has to read this stuff every day!

Great work Theodore. This blog is just horrible. I hope your internship is almost finished because it is absolute torture following your work.
