Janesville police officers recognized for service

By TED SULLIVAN   Sunday, May 31, 2009 - 8:35 p.m.

Two Janesville police officers were recently honored for their service to the city.

According to the police department:

OFFICER BRIAN R. RUBECK was dispatched to a house fire in April.

The 911 Center reported two people were trapped on a rear deck and unable to escape the fire.

Rubeck was the first officer on scene and saw visible flames.

He found two teenagers and their dog stranded on a rear deck about 15 feet in the air.

The teens were scared to jump.

Rubeck shouted to neighbors for a ladder.

He rescued the teens and their dog.

OFFICER MARK S. STANDISH responded in April to a call of shots fired with a woman injured.

He was first on scene.

He made sure the victim received medical assistance.

He then broadcasted information about the fleeing suspect.

Moments later, he helped pursue the suspect in his patrol car.

He later rammed the suspect’s vehicle to stop him. The suspect was arrested.

The victim died from gunshot wounds.

No disrespect intended to JPD officers. Just a little jab at RCSO. http://gazettextra.com/news/2009/may/14/...

officerfriendly1......I don't believe that your disrespect for the remaining members of the JPD was intended so I won't take issue with it. I know and have worked with both officers and also find them very deserving. I do believe that the majority of officers presented with these sets of facts would have performed as well. They may have in other circumstances but just not as notable. So I believe many other officers are DESERVING but just not as noted or present at those times and places.

Great job guys! JPD knows how to do it right. Instead of giving awards to half the department, which minimizes the awards, they honor those that actually deserve recognition.
