New sports Web site

By KYLE GEISSLER   Monday, August 10, 2009 - 4:16 a.m.

Rock County loves local sports, which is why we’re creating a new Web site for local sports teams.

Gazettextra is partnering with Community Sports Desk to create the Gazettextra Sports Network.

The new Web site will be the source for all the information about local youth and recreation sports leagues. Teams will be offered a free media platform to share schedules, game highlights, and photos.

A full list of the sports covered by the Gazettextra Sports Network is below.

We are currently in the recruiting phase of launching this Web site. We’re contacting teams and leagues who might want their activities included in the Gazettextra Sports Network.

If you, or someone you know, is part of a local sports league interested in taking part, please contact us by e-mail and we’ll get in touch. You may also call 888-853-7904. We’re focused on the fall sports leagues right now, but it’s not too early to get your team or league signed up if you play any other time of the year.

If you’re a player or a parent interested in following your team on the Gazettextra Sports Network, contact your coach or league organizer and ask them to get in touch with us.

Look for the new Gazettextra Sports Network on Gazettextra this fall.

Sports covered by the Gazettextra Sports Network: Archery, Badminton, Baseball, Basketball, Billiards, Bowling, Cheerleading, Darts, Diving, Dodgeball, Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Hockey, Kickball, Lacrosse, Rugby, Skiing, Snowboarding, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Taekwondo, Tennis, Track and Field, Ultimate Frisbee, Volleyball and Water polo.

I think this is a great idea. I was just trying to find a way to help fill some league vacancies for this year in our bowling league. This will help immensely

This will be a great added feature. I enjoy the sports coverage, as it is a great distraction from all of the depressing news and reality of this area. Being in a household with 2 unemployed parents, I appreciate having these kind of options to bring positive news into our lives!

Oh yeah, I know. You mean the ones that don't help sell advertising. The same ones that make all of the readership feel so optimistic and such. Yes, let's have more of those for sure.

Please, no more sports (entertainment) coverage. Instead, expand coverage on healthcare, government, education, employment, business and economic development, social issues, and global economics. You know the subjects that actually matter and make a difference.

No triathlons/duathlons/marathons or would those fall under track and field? I know they are not a "league" but these running and multi-sport events are rapidly gaining popularity in the area.

Just curious...
