Snow closing announcements
Large snow storms like the one expected this week are what WCLO.com and WJVL.com's closings and cancellations page was made for.
What follows is a blog entry written by WCLO Program Director Tim Bremel about how you can use this Web site feature to find out if your activities are changing because of the weather or make your announcements.
WCLO/WJVL Closings and cancellations page
WCLO (and our sister station WJVL) are proud to have one of the most comprehensive, web-based, closings and cancellations systems in the area. Here are a couple tips on using it to your advantage:
If you would like to use our system, you simply need to apply for a user account by using the link on our closings page.
Its important to set up this account before big storms so you can use it without delay. Closings and delays can be posted 24 hours a day through this system.
Its also important to know that, to ensure accuracy and minimize errors, no closings are accepted via telephone.
Individuals seeking closing information:
Our web based system is fast and easy. You can view the entire list of closings, sort by categories or alphabetically by name.
Many people bookmark this page in their favorites, which is a great idea. We'd just remind you the keep "refreshing" the page each time you look at it, because closings and delays are added constantly by our users.
What we announce on air.
Okay. So what do we announce "over the air" on WCLO?
Certainly times have changed and there are more demands on our "on air" time. WCLO prioritizes the listings we read on the air on an "impact" basis. That means we will feature the listings that impact the greatest number of people (and therefore will hopefully have the greatest positive effect on safety) first.
Schools and large businesses are given highest priority on the air, as we hope to prevent these parents and employees from needlessly driving in severe weather conditions. From there, as time permits, we will feature smaller businesses, child care centers and finally, clubs and organizations.
We encourage organizations, clubs and any businesses to use the online component of the service. You can then refer members or employees to the website as a dependable way of communicating your closings, cancellations and delays to them.
We hope this system is useful to most of our listeners and many other people in the community. As always, if you have suggestions or input, we'd love to hear from you. You can always email me at tbremel@wclo.com

sannio, most browsers allow you to specify a preferred color for hyperlinks and override any color specified in the webpage code.

Do you have a link to the closings and cancellations page? I probably missed it because hyperlinks on this website are hard for me to pick out because the color is so close to the normal text.
