And the survey says...
One of the fun parts about being a reporter is getting to read survey results from various organizations, including the write-in responses.
Yes, I’m a big dork. But it’s often fun to see what kind of opinions people will give when they know it’s anonymous.
That’s why I had fun going through the survey results from the Young Professionals group we’ve been writing about. The survey was taken at the group’s first gathering, and organizers reviewed the results at last week’s event.
Here’s a summary:
-- Networking/socializing was the top reason people wanted to get involved in the young professional group, followed by learning more about “things to do” in the community. Ranking at the bottom was “learn more about local government/politics.”
-- Arts, music and sports seemed to interest people most in the “things to do” category. One commenter said, “Bring opportunities, group rides, Frisbee, football, kickball league participation.”
-- On connecting with mentors, one person wrote, “Janesville needs more of this … facilitated setting to connect with experienced, mature business leaders sounds great!”
-- A few people gave comments about learning more about local government/politics, including these: “I get plenty of this at work but you can never have too much! I think we could all use a civics refresher,” and “Get involved or get left behind.”
-- Other comments included:
“I definitely think we need more of this in Janesville. Any sort of social/networking events will only keep the community more cohesive.”
“The importance of seminars for those attempting to start a business is extremely high. They allow for further education and an influx of new ideas.”
The next young professionals gathering is scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29 at The Armory.
