Ribbit ribbit
I know my name is at the top of this post, but I'm actually posting this on behalf of our colleague, Frank Schultz, who is an honorary young professional because he knows how to kick back and have fun. Here's what he has to say about "The Frogs," a play running at the Janesville Performing Arts Center through this weekend:
"I went to see 'Frogs' at JPAC this weekend. It continues next weekend. Very small crowd. Several people involved said they think people aren't coming because they think it's flooded. There is a pump working in the Marshall Apartments, but the show goes on.
"The show is a clever romp with much fun and silliness in ancient Greece but with dialog reflecting modern, urban sensibilities. Not for kids, but not obscene. Much fun are Ron Brown as Shakespeare, Jim Lyke as George Bernard Shaw and Al Lindau as Pluto, god of the underworld, and also as Heracles (I think they used this spelling, not Hercules). Heracles is the caveman type, but Pluto is quite the opposite. Al's students should see him and never let him live it down. Dave Bitter is Dionysis, and the young man who plays Dionysis' slave, whose name, regretably, I can't remember, is a hoot. Special mention to Edie Baran, local theater legend, who appears in her first musical (although she has directed or produced many musicals). The program says Edie can't 'singe,' but I think she is quite funny and sings adequately, despite the typo."
"The Frogs" runs Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $8 for students. Click here for more info.
