Time for some Monkey Business
The Monkey Business Institute, an improv comedy group from Madison, will hit the stage at 8 p.m. Saturday at Rotary Gardens.
I hope to be there!
The show runs from 8 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Tickets are available at Rotary Gardens, Dubes Jewelry and the Janesville Community Day Care Center.
All procedes go to Janesville Community Day Care Center.
I did improv with Monkey Business in 2005 when they were getting their start. Before that, they taught me a lot as former members of Madison's ComedySportz and the Atlas Comedy Club. We also did some benefit work with Madison's country music station, Q106.
I would say the thing I miss the most about living in Madison is improv.
I wasn't great at it, but man, is it fun!!! I sang a song on stage once about selling crack in Compton. In one skit, I ordered pizza from aliens.
I've long said that improv training is the best thing a writer can do, because it requires a completely different skill set from writing. Writers can take all day coming up with just the right word. In an improv show, you learn to tear down your mental filters and shout the first thing that comes to your mind.
Polar bears!
Like that, but it's funnier live.
Thanks to Gazettextra reader deweeze for sending me the info about the show.
I hope to see you there.
And does anyone know of any improv groups in our area?
