The summer clock is ticking

By ANN MARIE AMES ( Contact )   Friday, August 21, 2009 - 10:36 a.m.

The first thing on my to-do list today is assigning photos for the Walworth County Fair.

(Please politely ignore the fact that I am blogging, which isn't on my to-do list. In my usual method, I will now add it to my list so I can cross it off.)

Anyway ... Walworth County Fair. You know what that means. Summer is almost over, folks.

I haven't ridden on a Ferris wheel yet this year. And I haven't been swimming outside of Janesville.

Unfortunately, I look outside today and think that it looks like one of those days where moms and dads wish the kids were back in school. It's not very summery out there.

I suggest letting the kids wash dishes in the kiddie pool (on the kitchen floor) while mom or dad read a book in a nearby lounge chair.

Can you tell I'm not a mom? That idea probably looks good on paper but would fail miserably in action.

What's on your last-minute summer agenda?

I took the eat local challenge this month and have been doing pretty well with it! That's my late summer fun! Oh, and trying to get my son to pack for college.

I just realized I haven't gotten a professional pedicure all summer. That means I can justify it, since it's something I haven't been spending cash on...right? Right?

Tuesday night at drill practice in Jefferson was the first time I noticed that it was getting darker earlier. Summer has gone by too fast this year! Only two more drill competitions left in the season...with Walworth County Fair being our last. Maybe it was the hard times that fell on Janesville...or the uncertainty of the economy that let summer slip by us without engaging in all usual activities we normally look forward to and enjoy.
Here's hoping the Walworth County Fair and the last opportunity to enjoy summer (i.e. Labor Day weekend) will have great weather so we can make the most of it.

A bit of a tan would be nice along with a few HOT days dipping myself in a pool (I think I got into a pool 3 times this summer rather than 3 times a week!)I guess a few visits to a tanning bed is the best I might hope for. I'd like to go boating - but again - I like very hot days for this. Will we get many more, especially days I don't have to work???

I realized summer is almost over when I saw apples at the farmers market last weekend. One thing I will cross off my to-do list tonight is getting to a Snappers game. As long as it doesn't rain!

--Run another 5K (I haven't done that since June)
--Eat cheese curds at the fair
--Buy something from the Janesville Farmers Market
--See some live music downtown (Rock Around the Block, maybe?)
