Just Jets
A bunch of my newsroom colleagues and I had a great time last Friday night at a Janesville Jets hockey match.
I always like venues where you can see real, live people showing off their talents, whether it’s live sports, music or art.
The stands were packed the night we went, and I enjoyed the mix of people in the audience. Lots and lots of kids were sitting, noses up against the Plexiglas, to watch the action.
Many of those kids probably know a lot more about hockey than I do.
There’s just something about watching hockey that’s unlike any other kind of bleacher experience. It’s loud and cold in there, but you sit bundled up under the heating coil watching skaters fly by.
If you’re not into hockey, you could make a hobby of watching notable stocking hats or babies in cute snowsuits.
If, like me, you don’t know much about hockey, don’t be intimidated.
I asked Gazette General Manager and long-time Janesville hockey referee Dave Johnson what he would say to encourage people to come out and enjoy the Jets.
“Hockey’s a simple game,” Johnson said. “Just come out and watch a while, and you’ll catch on to the rules.”
If you need help, you can probably find a friendly hockey person in the stands to explain things.
Tickets are $9 for adults and $7 for seniors and students. Call (608) 752-JETS or visit the team’s Web site for more information.

Actually, attendence has been between 600 and 750 per night. It's been great seeing all the new faces at the rink. Hope to see more soon!

I think it's marvelous that three of us spontaneously posted blogs about that game without consulting each other. What a fun event! :)
