It's all in your head
There's nothing like a book when I want to get out of town but can't.
For example, over the last few years I've developed a random obsession with Italy. I don't know why. It started with me deciding I want to learn Italian, then deciding I want to take a trip to Italy, and then trying to convince my husband (mostly jokingly) that we should move to Italy.
None of that has actually happened yet, but I have read some books about Italy.
I started with "Eat, Pray, Love," the best-seller by Elizabeth Gilbert. I know a lot of people found the book trite, but as I read I felt like I was really traveling to Italy, India and Indonesia with the author.
Yesterday, I picked up "Playing for Pizza" by John Grisham, a fictionalized account of a real American football league in Italy. I plan to start that one today.
I like books about other places, too, both abroad and in-country. If I can't really get away, at least I can pretend for a few hours at a time.
What are your travel lit recommendations?

No surprise here ... John Steinbeck's "Travels with Charley in Search of America" is a favorite summer read of mine.
Steinbeck bought a little camper and drove across America with his dog. He's great, of course, about making you feel like you're on the trip with him.
It's a fun read. He even wrote a couple graphs about driving through Wisconsin.
