Edgerton Book Fest approaching fast
Fall is a good time for books.
The days are getting colder, so you're no longer distracted by outdoor activities. Plus, the kids are all back in school, so people have books on the brain.
I assume the organizers of the Edgerton Sterling North Book & Film Festival know this, and that's why they schedule the annual event for the first weekend in October. (Of course, that's just my assumption.)
That means this year's event is just two and a half weeks away (Oct. 4 and 5). The weekend features speakers on everything from quilts to kites. I'm especially excited about an author of a book about Wisconsin coffee shops and one who wrote a true-crime book about the murder of Frank Lloyd Wright's lover. Check out more info about the book festival here.
And to get you into the film part of things, festival organizers are hosting a silent film fest fund-raiser on Saturday, Sept. 27. Tickets are $10 to see "The Mark of Zorro" and Charlie Chaplin's "The Adventurer." Organizers promise "painless and humourous commentary," a souvenir program, refreshments and maybe even a visit by Chaplin himself (even though, as the press release points out, he is still dead). You have your choice of a matinee showing at 1:30 p.m. or a feature showing at 7 p.m. at the Sterling North Home barn, 409 W. Rollin St.
Tickets can be purchased at the Edgerton Reporter office, 21 N. Henry St., and might or might not be available at the door. For more info, call 868-7241 or e-mail mdscarby@yahoo.com.

I hope every one who trashes Edgerton for having beer at its other festivals takes part in the Book Festival to show their support.
