Pop culture with an Asian flair
As the wife of someone totally plugged into pop culture, I find it funny that many people don't know what manga and anime are. (They're Japanese-style comic books and animation, in case you're one of them.)
I got to talk to some librarians and enthusiastic teenagers last week about their love for the Japanese books and DVDs as a preview of Milton Public Library's anime and manga night. It's at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26 at 430 E. High St.
As Brianne Anderson, Milton library assistant, explained to me, manga are considered more like novels than comic books in Japan. It just so happens that their novels have illustrations. Anime are often based on manga.
After the story ran, I heard from a Craig High School ninth grader trying to get the word out about Craig's anime club. Here's what Katie had to say:
Our club is open for any at Craig and we met once a week on Wednesday. Also, anime club is the third largest club at Craig, with only student council and debate beating it in number of people. We watch a wide range of anime, from dead serious to laugh out loud for 30 minuets straight. So far we have watched animes such as: Bleach, Witch Hunter Robin, All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku, One Piece, Claymore, Chobits, Fullmetal Alchemist, Air Gear, and Chrono Crusade.
I believe our movie nights are open to any at Craig. Our movies that have already been showed include The Death Notes live action movie and Appleseed.
If you wish to find out more about Craig's anime club, contact Richard Kakouris (608-743-5285 or rkakouris@janesville.k12.wi.us) for more information.
Thanks, Katie!

Adultswim shows mainly American adult themed cartoons, but few anime shows. Anime will range is subject matter, from kids, to teenage themes, to violet. Parents need to keep an eye on what their children watch, but tehy can find anima and manga for anyage, so don't rule it out because a few shows apper on Adultswim, which I wont watch by the way.

I thought Janesville was a racist, close-minded, 60's ish community? If you read some other posters out there you would think so.
