Book lovers weekend

By STACY VOGEL ( Contact )   Thursday, March 26, 2009 - 9:32 a.m.

This is the weekend to be a book lover, especially if you're looking to save money on your books.

The American Association of University Women annual used book sale starts today from 5 to 8 p.m. at 837 N. Parker Drive, Janesville. My co-workers and I plan to get in line at quarter to five to get the choicest books. It continues Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, the books are half price 12 to 2 p.m. and you can fill a grocery bag for $10 from 2 to 4 p.m.

If you're traveling this weekend, there are a couple of other book sales to take advantage of. UW-Madison is having its spring book sale through Saturday at Memorial Library, 728 State St. Click here for more details.

And finally, this is the last weekend for one of my favorite book chains, Harry W. Schwartz Bookshops in Milwaukee. And just because this is a sad, sad time for book lovers doesn't mean you can't take advantage of some great deals. For example, I made myself feel better last weekend by buying a stack of books at 40 percent off from the store's Brookfield location, 17145 W. Bluemound Road. The 40 percent off sale continues this weekend at the Brookfield and Shorewood (4093 N. Oakland Ave.) locations.

Happy hunting! Now if only I could find the time to read all these books...
