Lake referendum approved
UPDATED: Voters approved the Lake Leota referendum: Yes: 1,742 No: 749
I just made it through my polling place in about 4 minutes and the machine read somewhere around No. 429 when I entered my ballot.
I was a little disappointed, however, that they didn't have any of the "I Voted" stickers that I so loved to wear back when we'd do mock votes in school.
In just a few hours you'll have the results of the much-anticipated Lake Leota referendum. Stay tuned here as I'll post the results as soon as they're in tonight.
How's voting going in Evansville? Feel free to post your voting experience here along with any other Election Day oddities.

Now that the bids are open and the base bids are less than half of the $2M figure do you suppose the griping will stop?
Neither do I.

This would be a great time for the Mayor to call on her friends at EcoEnergy and WPPI. Mayor Decker could have 3 wind turbines installed in the lake and I am sure that EcoEnergy and WPPI would be more than happy to pick up the tab for the lake restoration as part of the turbine project. WOW clean green power and a brand new lake all for free. The turbines may even help reduce the goose population around the lake, another benefit and again it’s free. Evansville will remember the name Mayor Decker for the next 30 years.

Foolish? Yes. But the lake leota project is not the only foolish thing this city has done is recent years. Its just part of it. I agree with I don't think they can keep it under 2 million. IF the real number had been on the ballot, it would not have passed and thats what they were afraid of . What do you think of a council , with the exception of 1 who put a false number on the ballot to get what they want? It is fraud, lies , deception, what ever you want to call it. As for janis ringhand I would not vote for her for dog catcher. She has gotten this city into some hot water with the flooding issues we have a project that she pushed through. I have no doubt she has a neighbor or two who will run against her the next election. I think every one forget what a careless mayor she was, and now a council person. They won't forget come election time.

"People should not have to move because the city makes foolish choices regarding money."
.
That's right...you don't have to move. But if it's such a heartburn for you, it may be better for your health if you do.
.
Who says it was foolish? The majority? of which you obviously weren't.

It makes me wonder if it does not border on fraud, as the council was deceptive in the number they put on the ballot.

Since it will be done, lets hope it's done with sustainable ideas and practices.

Lake Leota is nothing more than a glorified millpond. Thats all it has ever been or will be.

What we will be watching is the price,, the referendum only allows for up to 2 million. I don't know as though they can stay under. Also now that this is no longer a 'private' project, all records are available to the public, it is a public project. I will agree with SOLE, or SOLELESS has no money. They never have. They have been extremely lazy. The only thing they have done is spend money, not raise any. LAZY pure and simple.
When people find out what the true price is of this project, and they will. There are going to be some very angry people in town.
The Evansville City Council was less than honest by putting 2million on the ballot as that is not the project price.
Decker and Ringhand will bankrupt this town. They have both done a lot of damage. Trust in city officials first of all.

I gues some people in Evansville want to look at the weeds and trees that are growing in what use to be the lake, I grew up here and that lake has always been a attraction for people coming to Evansville, mostly around the 4th of July, but I guess there are a few people that don't want any money coming in to the city.

People should not have to move because the city makes foolish choices regarding money. This city has been over budget on every project they have done this year. They don't know how to say NO.
S.O.L.E. is a freakin joke. They have not raised crap. Lazy. Not to worry because there will be plenty of people watching to make sure they stay UNDER the 2 million that was on the ballot. 2.65 million is the real cost. It will reflect in the coming elections.

I walked though the park Wednesday night thinking "This will be the last time I will be able to do this" after the lake returns the park will be covered in goose dropping again. I'm so glad my taxes are going to go up for a park I will no longer be able to enjoy. :-(

Finally! Started the project and then realized there was no money to complete it. Now the Lake Leota referendum had passed. Start dredging that mess and finish the project.

I voted early this morning. My husband voted about 1:30 and he was number 399. 949 is 100% at our voting location. I think that is an encouraging number.

Between 7 and 8 a.m., there was about a 20 minute wait for Union Twsp. voters. My wife and I went through at about 7:35; I was number 65. There were at least another 35 people in line as we left. It went smooth, BUT....I think there were six booths total, but only 2 to 3 were being utilized at a time. Is this the "Help" part from the federal government in the "Help America Vote Act"??? Of course, this is nowhere near the 8-10 hours other states are experiencing. All in all, though, it was no burden, considering what is at stake.
