Attracting antiquers proving successful
I was chatting with Jean Wyse today about a story, and we got to talking about her antique business: Windmill Antiques and Company.
It opened last fall in the newly renovated Eager building on Main Street in downtown.
She said she’s been surprised at how well the store is doing, and it should only get better as the weather gets nicer. That’s good news given the area’s economic struggles.
“We’ve only received just wonderful, wonderful comments about the beauty of the building and the quality of the dealers,” she said.
Wyse has 14 vendors in the building and is always looking for quality dealers, she said.
“There aren’t as many antique malls as they’re used to be,” she said, noting ones that have closed in Milton, Mt. Horeb and Middleton. “We’re getting clients from all over the Midwest.”
They’re partnering with the Waterloo Antiques Mall to promote a map of antique stores in the area.
What does your map look like? Where do you like to go antique shopping?

The Evill g-sale day is in August. It has been that way for 20+++ years...
The only event in July at Evill is the July 4th celebration by the "new" lake.
What is this "crazy days" festival??
Note to self...change in Evill, Metromilton, Jville, ect. is bad....don't suggest any in the future.....might upset the life-long towners..... HA!!

Eville doesnt need a spring one! The one in July coincides with the crazy days festival and brings in a lot of people. It is well organinzed and has a lot more than just garage sales. It has been that way for over 30 years.

I hope that someone in Evill will run with the spring sale day idea.
Now that the moat...errr....lake is filled, here's a way to get people to spend a day in town.
And isn't the saying "spring cleaning??"
I get tired of storing our treasures for the whole summer. I could use the room and $$ now.

Janesville's citywides are the third Saturday of every month, April thru September. (May and June usually have the largest offering). Footville organizes one or two as well, but I don't know the dates.

I think two city wide sales a year would be great as well, or have Evansville's earlier. I think by the time Evansville has theirs a lot of people have already had theirs during the summer.

metromilton: Great idea on two city-wide sales. Janesville does several. Hope the organizers read these messages and consider a second city-wide sale, in the spring, as a way to encourage people to come to town and shop our stores.

Pat...the business could be busy from a thing called the internet or ebay....I know we are.
To bad Evill has its garage sale day so late in the year. Has any of the towners thought of having it twice?? Maybe spring AND fall???

Columbus Antique mall is great with 3 stories and lots of dealers. I also just visited the Roscoe Antique mall and Annies Attic in S. Beloit just today. They also are quite large and had much to choose from.
*
I can't wait for warmer weather and auctions and rummage sales to start...that is where I get my best deals.
*
Oh and by the way if you like auctions there is one in Clinton On Sat for the Clinton FFA... it is a consignment auction so there will be lots to look at. And the best part is all the money goes to a great group.

I miss Milton Antique Mall, though I admit I haven't antiqued in a couple years. Is the antique mall still open on Delavan's Main St.? If so, that is a very pleasant place to shop - nice variety of vendors. And there was one in Walworth as well where I found a few favorite things.

Thats funny I browse in their at least once a week, as I am looking for a particular item. I am normally the only one in their. So I wonder when they are 'doing' all of this business.
