How your taxes rate
Here's your chance to find out. Everyone loves to complain about how high their taxes are, so here's an opportunity to see how they compare to other cities.
The Wisconsin Taxpayer Alliance will present an overview of Evansville's finances to the city council at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, in the high school media room.
The alliance’s presentation will show how Evansville’s budget, taxes and other finances compare to other similar-sized municipalities.
The second part of the meeting will be a city council discussion on the city’s finances as it begins the 2010 budgeting process.

I.Q.B....there is nothing wrong with the "rumble strip".....in fact it should have been extended to the east to meet with 14 and also extended to the west to 4th st.
This is the "red carpet" to the famed "histeric distric" in town. It should be finished to fullfill the glory of the district.....
On a similar note.....Water street will be repaved in 2010 with real gold bricks. This is only fitting that a street of this stature be installed to lead to the new "taj mahal" (aka Fire Department) building. Once installed, Water street will be converted to a toll road.
A non-negotiable fee of $500 to pass thru will be collected. There will be a special "no-cost" toll exemption to select "towners" who are "friends" of the E.F.D. of course.....

So Evansville can expect even higher taxes next year? Evansville can't handle anymore. also if the school builds I have no doubt we will top Clinton in terms of taxes. The city council better be very careful with our money and stop spending so foolishly. You know another rumble strip in town.

Property taxes are insane in ANY Wisconsin city, town, or village. If you don't believe that just talk to residents of other states. Property taxes in WI, are often 2-3x as much as compared to other states. They will of course only be going up with the huge shortfall in the state budget that has forced them to cut state aid to communities, and the passage of the lifting of the QEO in the recent budget. No surprise what so ever to see property taxes increase 20-30% (all depending where you live) the next year, mark my words on that one.

High taxes are the calling card for Evill. Always have been, always will be. Until those with access to the public's money learn that the borrowing of today HAS TO BE PAID tomorrow, the wild spend, spend and jack up the taxes will continue.
Look at how many businesses in town shuttered or pulled out in the last 5 years. It wasn't the national economy that made them leave...
Does the W.T.A. have any data on the number of home forclosures/reposessions and how they are equated to the high taxes in Evill?? The results would shock many into ever moving there and might make a few more leave.
Here's a chance for S.O.L.E. (Save Our Lil Evill) to finally step up and agree to take on the full financial burden of repaying the debt for the "new" watering hole restoration.
How about it S.O.L.E.????? Care to take on all the pain????
You might run short a few new fish to stock the hole with, but planting pinwheels in the hole might be a great fundraiser!!!
You already have a captive customer in the Evill Water & Light Dept. as a buyer for the pinwheels "juice".
I bet one of the S.O.L.E. "leaders" would volunteer/donate the concrete work and real estate fees for free too!!! How much easier can it get???

there was a lady from the tax payer alliance at one of the meetings about the lake that I talked to . She told me they get lots of complaints about Evansville, and she herself feels they are high. So that tells me just where we stand. She also strongly ENCOURAGED the city council not to take out a loan for the lake, but to BUDGET for it, even if it meant waiting a year or two.. But you know Evansville spend, spend, spend...
