Evansville Farmers Market off and running

By GINA DUWE ( Contact )   Thursday, June 2, 2011 - 5:01 p.m.

It looks like the first full year of the new Evansville Farmers Market is off to a good start.

I’m sad to say I haven’t been to any farmers markets yet this year, but hopefully that will change soon. I’ll have less of a need, though, because my husband and I planted our first veggie garden in our backyard. Mike runs outside every morning before work to check on the peas, carrots and other plants sprouting up. It’s pretty cute. We’re amazed at how quickly beans sprout up.

But I digress.

Have you been to Evansville’s market yet?

It started April 30 and will run through October. It’s from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday on Church Street next to the new Creekside Place downtown.

Renee Frank, co-manager of the market, is keeping folks up-to-date on the happenings on her blog here.

It looks like they’ve done some fun things with more planned. Renee said they’ve had flower pot painting and will have talks and demonstrations with master gardeners and florists and possible some cooking demonstrations.

What’s been your favorite finds so far this year at area farmers markets?
