The Plop Factor
‘Tis the season. The air is crisp, leaves fall, days grow shorter and the Sunday paper has major weight gain – weekly ads! Yes, this is my favorite time of the year. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy Sunday papers in July, but the paper tends to float to the table. As we approach Black Friday, I have to be careful not to wake the kids dropping the paper on the table. Papers in November don’t float – they PLOP!
Sure, major retailers have already “leaked” their day-after ads to websites. I’ve visited my share to take a peek, but there is something about holding the ad in my hand, rummaging through the pile, comparing side-by-side.
Yeah, I’m not like your average Gen-X guy. I love the malls, department stores, specialty shops – both local and national alike. I joke with my friends that I grew up at the mall with my mom. Thanks Mom!
Where will I go first – Menards or Farm and Fleet; Target or Kohl’s? Game day is two weeks away. I will be prepared – getting the final playbook in The Janesville Gazette shortly before kickoff. Oh, Best Buy – forget it! I’ll let Gen-Y camp out for those deals.
Will I bump into you on the Day After Thanksgiving? Where will you be?

I never have been one to buy tons of Christmas gifts, but I do enjoy the hustle & bustle of black Friday. It helps get me in the mood with MOST people friendly & having fun (there are a few that are on a mission & will do anything to complete it). I'll see you at Kohl's - I'll be the one at the end of the line making sure you don't butt in!! Be nice to me and a latte - no flavor - would be nice!!

I will be starting my day off at Menards, then onto Farm & Fleet then Walmart. I do the balck Friday sales simply because I can stretch my dollar so much farther whe I buy the door buster items.
Besides I get to spen time with my family and friends shoping and we can split up to get all the best deals on our list.
Crazy as it is, I have fun.

Only crazy people go shopping the day after Thanksgiving!
I will be at work avoiding all that madness. I used to work in retail and can't understand why people would put themselves in the middle of such chaos.

Bobb, I was thinking of people like you as I read this. We have a serious unemployment problem here, and those of us who have jobs are earning less. I will be a tough Christmas for some.

Given your previous entry I was a bit worried about what this "plop factor" might be.

Unless you're on a plane flying back from Detroit after the Thanksgiving Day Packer/Lions game, you won't bump into me!
