Local morning TV is tuned to Rockford
I once posed the question, “Do you gravitate toward Madison or Rockford?” My family tends to gravitate toward the Madison area. While my commutes normally take me north, my morning news comes from Rockford. I watch Andy and Aaron in the morning on Channel 23.
So, why does a “Madison guy” flip to a Rockford channel to get his morning local news? I turn to Andy and Aaron because they are fun. Sure, they read a teleprompter, but I get the comforting sense that they are just being themselves during the majority of the show. They banter, they have fun and they share their opinion. If something doesn't work they don't put their hand in their ear and state “technical difficulties”, they just tell us it isn't working.
The live remotes are fun. Cooking with Sylvia is great. I look forward to weather on the 3s and I get a nice overview of the Stateline area. Thanks for being real guys.
It's not that I wasn't once a Madison morning TV guy. News 3 This Morning had the same feel as Andy and Aaron a few years ago when Rob Starbuck and Susan Simon were at the helm. Susan left for the evenings and her replacement has never seemed to make the connection with Rob. Each time I flip to Channel 3 for a moment the banter seems strained.
I do check out the morning shows on channels 15 and 27 but my local morning television channel is usually tuned to Rockford and Andy and Aaron on Channel 23.
If you're a local morning news watcher, who do you watch?

I prefer NBC15. They have the energy I need in the morning. That said, I don't have cable, and the 15.1 signal doesn't reach me. Starbuck puts be back to sleep. That leaves me with 27. No, I don't/won't do Rockford. I live in Wisconsin, afterall. On the way to work...WCLO.

Are you talking about Andy Gannon? That guy is a complete tool. Which would probably explain why you watch him. It's funny that you mention Madison news vs. Rockford news because my wife and I always joke that Madison is so much better. The Rockford news shows looks like they're filming out of somebody's basement. The video and audio are horrible. It's freakin' 2010, try and keep up Rockford.

I have a polish weather station out my window, a 12" white rope with a block of wood on the end. If its moving it's windy, if it's wet it's raining, if it's dry it's nice out. Haven't found a weatherperson more accurate than the Pollock.

I agree with Indy. I also noticed (at first) Charlotte strugling to form a rapport with Rob, but she has opened up with time. She (at this point) is no match for the chemistry Rob and Susan had, but I still enjoy watching Charlotte..

I agree, I also tend to gravitate to Rockford for my news. I only watch Wisconsin news when I'm at work and the ladies have it on.
As with ABnNoGma2, I have lived in the Rockford news area for quite some number of years. It was especially useful since my family lived just east of there by about 45 minutes to an hour-- weather was a great forecaster!
Yes, Andy and Aron are silly, but I tend to watch Channel 13 WREX (and get their YourCast). I used to watch Eric Sorenson and Dani Maxwell in the mornings... until Eric went to nights and back to AMs and now, I believe, Dani is on at nights. I used to love watching Michelle in the mornings, too!

The problem with watching TV for information is that the "informational" content is an illusion. The predominant phenomenon taking place is that the viewer is just sitting there while staring at a flickering light. Such activity is mind-numbing.
"Listening" to TV while doing other things may be rationalized as an improvement on staring at the flicker light, however, "informational" retention of such listening only ranges from meaningless to a degree insignificantly higher than meaningless.

NBC 15 news. More coverage of our direct scene is on that chanel. School delays are well versed there early enough for reaction time by parents. They argue. They dip and drive on eachother-(news team). They play with the real consciouness of human nature. Oh yeah they report the new and weather too. And a live trafic report daily.
They are fun and vibrant and alive. Not dull and undepressant. Not monotoned, or zombie-like. (My Gaud have you seen chnl 17 morning news!?! Watch this if your turning over and going back to sleep.)
also www.nbc15news.com is a great site/ 6AM online live news if you had an early start at work. They live broadcast.
Reality, in personal views, humor, and they have online blogging during the braodcast they keep up to date with. A very interactive, and well informed station. Give er a whirl sometime.

I watch the news at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. only because hubby does. He likes Channel 15 out of Madison. I cannot stand the meteorologist, David George. I don't know why, his voice just grates on my nerves and he goes on and on and on and never stops!!! I usually get my news right online, the gazette and yahoo. JMO

I get up at 6:00 a.m. and listen to WCLO radio for at least one hour. I get great local, regional and national coverage as well as excellent weather and sports. The 10 minute CBS World News at 7:00 a.m. is outstanding.

Steve, I agree with your comment about Rob and Susan from Channel 3. Charlotte and Rob don't have the chemistry that once was. I used to live in Illinois and watch Aaron and Andy too. They are funny.

I wish I could watch Aaron and Andy again, but with Direct TV the local stations are Madison. I live on the stateline and grew up with Rockford news/weather and always watched Channel 23, in fact for about 40 years. I found their weather reports to be right on for the stateline (literally the stateline) and they would cover things like Edwards Apple Orchard. One year they ran a "best breakfast" restaurant and it was awarded to a little cafe in Clinton, Wisconsin! So I think they do a pretty good job of covering the area. While if we need legislative news, etc., it makes sense to watch a Madison station at night! But, like you Steve, I used to get a real kick out of Aaron and Andy!

I watch News 3 in the Morning. They cover southern Wisconsin better than any other Rockford or Madison station. I disagree with your comment about Rob and Charlotte (Susan's replacement). They have a great synergy between them.
