For the love of God, just play the game!
Channel 15 informed me that a 95-year-old Madison man listened to the last Bear/Packer championship game on the radio in 1941. I turned the channel for a few minutes then came back. It was still on! It was a 5 minute feature story – on Tuesday. Oh brother, they're certainly digging deep to play up the hype. What will the rest of the week bring?
This morning I was informed in a news blog that a furniture store will be closing for the game. Jim Leute, get on that story. What's the local angle? Will the furniture store be relocating to Janesville if the Packers win?
There's still almost 5 days until kickoff and this is the best the Wisconsin media has to give. I'm officially turning on WSCR this afternoon to get the Bear hype courtesy of Boers and Bernstein. It may be Bear hype but I can guarantee they won't give me a 95-year-old listening to a radio story. I know I could love you like my great grandpa, but really? My hope is Kevin Butler will get fed up of being mistaken for Jay Cutler and officially demand his number 6 back. That could have some interesting story lines.
Are you tired of the hype or do you like the ‘human interest’ stories? Me? I say “GET IT ON!” Oh, and the Bears suck.

The Chicago Bears football practice was delayed nearly two hours today after a player reported finding an unknown white powdery substance on the practice field. Head coach Lovie Smith immediately suspended practice and called the police and federal investigators. After a complete analysis, FBI forensic experts determined that the white substance unknown to players was the GOAL LINE. Practice resumed after special agents decided the team was unlikely to encounter the substance again this season.

There is an event in everyone's life that is important. The 95 year old man enjoyed the game back in 1941, which to him was not that long ago. Someday you and other people your age will look back on an important event and cherish those moments. It was only a few days ago when you did a piece on the shuttle event. I think it was good that some air time was devoted to an older gentleman. Ninety five is not old, if you are ninety five.

Hype is money. It doesn't matter if it is a football game or any other event. I hope the Packers win, but even the way the announcers hype the game while in progress is annoying. We live in a hyper society.

I think it is going to be a close winning game or they are going to get slamed by the Bears. If the Bears go to the Super Bowl I will cheer for the other team. But I hope the Packers Beat the Bears. To me I think the Packers have been doing better since Bert Frave got off the Team. Besides the Vickings didn't even make it to the Play offs.

According to the early morning crew on WCLO, the game will be broadcast there. And the Super Bowl. Some negotiating was done to acquire the rights to broadcast the games.

rivalries and sports. True, it's fun, but it can go overboard.... I've come to the conclusion that I have a hard time with professional sports these days for the overrated aspect, many of the "professional" athletes acting like children and the need for more and more money. If they truly loved the game, shouldn't they be happy for what they get? Look at other entertainers, many do the same only to go bankrupt because they can't handle all that money.
Doesn't it seem absurd that there are people who cannot afford the basics, despite trying, and are starving and living on the streets... IN AMERICA!!!
Just my humble opinion.

I'd rather read a dozen of these "human interest" stories than even one more sentence mentioning GM in Janesville.

Sounds like WCLO will not be carring the game. The "Packer Radio Network" can only carry the game in Milwaukee and Green Bay markets.

There is hype in Chicago as well! The mentioned WSCR show has billed this game as the biggest single game/sports event ever played IN Chicago. In reality it probably is since the various Bulls championships, and the Blackhawks were 7 game series and most were clinched while away. The Sox in the WS was a big deal but 1/2 of the city could care less about the Sox, and in fact 1/2 of the Nation probably do not know the Sox exist. SB XX? Yes it was big but not played in Chicago, so yes there is HYPE.
The neat thing is for a few years we had to hear that the NFC North is weak. Now two teams from the North are playing for a chance at the SB. The best thing is Jerry Jones wont be able to watch his 'Boys in Dallas at his "house" for the SB, however that fate was sealed long ago.
I am sure the pre-game will be filled with old black and white clips of Bears and packer games throughout the years and graphics of the number of Championships each team has etc. All which is fine with me. You would not get that with the fierce, and storied NFC South rivals like the Panthers/Bucs!
Let the fun begin!

I think Steve is asking for more hype.. I too love the hype. This is the time where you should see a cow in a field painted green and gold, or you should be stealing your neighbors Chicago Bears mailbox and re-painting it! I think what Steve is "asking" here is BRING ON THE ANTICS!

Relax Steve, it's only Wednesday. If you can't handle 4 days of "hype" that 2 weeks before the Super Bowl is going to kill you. Try turning off the TV.

I grew up in Chicago and still listen to WGN (altho not as much as I used to). During the summer the Cubs "pregame" show would come on about 20 minutes before the game, an interview with a player or coach from one of the teams and an overview of all the sports that day was normal.
However, during football, a six hour pregame show was the order. I still tease that topics of discussion included what every player had for breakfast and how it might effect their game. After the game, there was a "post game " marathon during which fans discussed every play, inch by inch, hours of "what if's" that usually was on longer than the actual game.
Don't need this, don't watch any of this, and living here on the "blurred boarder" between the teams, don't really care who wins.

I think this is great for this time of the year. It takes peoples' minds off of the everyday things that we all have to deal with. It even makes it better that it is Packers/Bears. Would we get this kind of hype if it were say Packers/Rams or Bears/Panthers?
It is kind of like when the lottery jackpot is large, people still live their everyday lives but have something to take their minds off of other things for a few days.

I like the hype. You have two storied franchises, the oldest in the league, who have played each other frequently and fiercely. Add into this the way residents of two states view each other (is Wisconsin really the favorite state park of Illinois residents?)and it is a great rivalry. I respect fans of the Bears because they are loyal (unlike the Vike fans), but I enjoy beating them (and hate losing to them) more than any other team.

Important to the value of hype is the over-reaction to hype. To truly deal with hype, hype has to be ignored.

Love the hype! Here's another story idea for Jim Luete:
"The DNR is investigating the Green Bay Packers for animal cruelty. Several Eagles were found dead in Philadelphia and numerous Falcons had their wings clipped leaving them flightless in Atlanta. It is believed that the Bear population in Chicago is the next species targeted by the Green and Gold. Go Pack Go!" (author unknown)

Steve...the hype in Chicago is no different than the hype in Green Bay. Chicago is doing the same "human interest" stories that our news stations are doing.
As for the furniture store, they decided to close on Sunday because so many employees were asking for the day off.
Even the boat show in Milwaukee is closing early on Sunday.
