Rumors swirl around Belvidere's future

By Jim Leute ( Contact )   October 29, 2007 - 8:58 a.m.

In the midst of voting down a tentative contract with Chrysler, United Auto Workers Local 1268 members learned in somewhat shocking fashion late last week that the plant’s third shift might be eliminated by year end.

Several hundred employees from our area work at the Belvidere plant, and their future is obviously up in the area.

The Gazette would like to do a story on those workers, but our database of local Chrysler employees is a little slim. Any leads, e-mailed to me, would be a good start.
