PACKing up
With Tuesday's announcement of Brett Favre's retirement--and no I don't think Randy Moss not becoming a Packer had anything to do with it--the all-time rankings list can begin for No. 4. Where does Favre rank among the all-time greatest signal callers. Here's my list, which is certainly up for discussion. Remember, I'm a die-hard Dolphin fan. 1. Joe Montana 2. Terry Bradshaw 3. Johnny Unitas 4. Dan Marino 5. Brett Favre. I didn't include Tom Brady because he's still playing. I know, how can I put Marino ahead of Favre when Favre broke all of his records, but even Favre said he didn't belong in the same league as Marino. I think he does, but I'd still rather have Marino since he never had the weapons Favre had. All in all, it's a sad day for Packer fans. It will be years before Packer fans probably realize how great they had it for 17 years. I wouldn't want to be in Aaron Rodgers shoes.

Come on, John. Marino was a great quarterback, but he had Mark Duper and Mark Clayton for a time, and that was the time his touchdown numbers exploded. Take away all the weapons that Montana and Bradshaw had (how many offensive players did each of those guys play with that are now in Canton) and add the fact that few, if any, of Favre's targets will get in the hall and you have to admit that Favre did more with less than anybody. I'm not saying he's the greatest ever because there are too many variables to consider to ever choose a best ever. But I think it's hard to say he isn't as good as anybody on your list when you consider everything.

I am really amazed that the Gazette has kept you on all this time. You are really out of touch with the "Sports" world. I, for one, am tired of your lame reporting. It would be nice if you moved on to a different newspaper(if they'd take you).

I think it's very difficult to compare quarterbacks from different generations. Therefore I'll just say Favre is among the best ever. I assume you rate Bradshaw so highly because of his championships. If that's the case, where's Bart Starr? I believe he won 5 titles. His passing numbers don't compare to todays qb's but it was a different game back then. Bradshaw's numbers don't stack up so well either but he was a great team leader.
Also, I believe Roger Staubach and Dan Fouts compare favorably to any of the names on your list.
