It's funny how one article about a fight between 2 girls that work at a strip club has so many people in an uproar. I'm not understanding why it had made the paper. Why didn't they just have it in the "Arrest" section and have the girls' name as being charged for battery or disorderly conduct?
It's not about which city is better than the other. There is no such thing. No matter where you go. There is good and bad in all cities.

Thanks for the apology, MajorMoto, I think. Nobody ever said that your statistics lie. However, to call Beloit an "embarassment" to the State of Wisconsin shows your true colors. Both cities(and Towns)have their good and bad and that will never change.

I don't imagine that a barstool is a very light object. The girl hefting that thing around high enough to hit the other in the head must have been ......pretty "stout".

Hey, MajorMojo: I have a suggestion for you ... ask Ken Hendricks what he thinks of Beloit! Wasn't he once a Janesville resident? Maybe you were his neighbor.

pondermuch, I agree with you that the crime in both cities is located mainly in a central radius.

Thanks Mojo for clarifying a bit. Obviously, bad publicity carries alot of weight on a community. I'm sure your crime stats will show that most violent crime in both cities can be traced back to about a 5-block radius in each city.
So come enjoy Beloit. Our restaurants are smoke free too!

Support single mothers, visit strip clubs.
I live in Janesville it like it. But Janesville could take a lesson from Beloit. They have a nice looking downtown and have some good places to eat. You won't find that in Janesville. I still only go there about four times a year and would not move there. But it nice. They also have riverfest.
We should stop fighting each other and focus on Milton They are the real snobs;)

Folks, I appologize if I ruffled some feathers. I was refering to the crime per capita statistics, not the over all numbers (which would obviously be more for Janesville considering it's population). I am just as outraged at the crime in Janesville. In my criminology studdies, I have done a great deal of research and written many papers on the subject. The statistics do not lie. So, how can we clean up the whole Rock County? Any suggestions?

It's always interesting that most small minded people in this area still focuses on Beloit's bad things. Nevermind that this year Beloit is the first WI city to receive the National Award from America in Bloom. Beloit captured the top national award for cities of 25000-50000 population. This is just one example of Beloit improving its reputation and the citizens here are proud to live here and are willing to step up and continue to improve our community. I have lived in Janesville and Beloit and I'm proud to live in Beloit and send my children to Beloit schools. It would be nice if people could stop focusing on so many negative things and actually embrace each other or other cities and try to make this a better world for everyone.

Maybe we should turn our attention toward the Gazette's decision to play up a story that occurred in Beloit over $38. Slow news day in Janesville? Is it that hard to find a more serious crime to report on? What is the "key" fact that makes it so newsworthy, that a stripper is involved?

Hey MajorMojo, there is plenty of crime in Janesville. The Gazette just does not report it like the BDN does for Beloit. Oh, wait a minute, I forgot that some Janesville people tend to be whiners. Don't believe me? Read the Sound Off column on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Can't we all just get along. Beloit thinks Janesville is bad. Janesville thinks Beloit is bad. If we start showing that no one is better than the other, than maybe we will have less problems.

I was born and raised in Beloit and just as any city it has its trouble spots and this strip club is right in the middle of our trouble spot but it is not fair to criticize an entire comunity because of a few bad streets. My family is well educated my husband and I both work and my daughter who by the way attneds BELOIT MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL is an avarage student she doesn't drink do drugs or have sex with her boyfriend. We live a very neutrual life and in the 40 years I've lived here believe it or not I have not been shot at once! I hear people in other parts of Rock County speak of Beloit and it seems that they always whisper or lower their voice as though someone might hear them speak the words of my city. I am proud to be part of the growing and progressing City of Beloit!

Jeez, Mojo, I can't wait to tell my beautiful family that we live in an "embarrassment". They'll be crestfallen. Time to give up on life because I just can't measure up to the Janesville standard. Good thing nothing beyond the pale ever happened at Screemin' Meemee's (sic). If I may be serious for a moment, best wishes to the many great people (some even "upstanding") in Janesville and Beloit I've known and met through the years.

Unfortunately those were the most recent stats Beloit makes available that I could locate. No, I don't live within the city limits of Janesville and yes, I've noticed an increase in violent crime here. But I don't have a sense that things are slowing down any in Beloit either.
I don't mean to imply that Janesville is a better city than Beloit. Or that either police department is better than the other. I just wanted to clarify the point you made. The age of the data concerned me but it was the best I could locate. When newer data is released perhaps your perception is right on the mark. I guess all I can say is that at this point the data available does not support your point.
Of course we all hope that there is much less violent crime, or any crime for that matter, where ever it is that we live.

If you're going to compare violent crime statistics as a whole rather than relate to individual incidents you're going to discover that Beloit is more dangerous than Janesville. Do violent crimes occur in Janesville? Yes, of course they do. Violent crimes occur everywhere. No one is immune. But, with the exception of rapes, they do happen with greater frequency in Beloit. That's just a statistical fact.

You know, if they had staged the catfight and rolled around on the floor a bit, I'm sure the tips for each would have added up to more than $38 apiece.
