Edgerton Fire Chief John Gietzel notified the Edgerton Fire District Commission that he intends to resign effective Jan. 12. He will remain "as a consultant" until then, he said.

Gietzel will soon move to Roscoe, Ill., he said. His resignation is not in protest of full-time employees returning to work this week after a four-year legal battle, but he is tired of the bickering and legal wrangling over the issue, he said.

FYI - I believe his decision was made long before the move to reinstate the three men.

John has done a lot for the Edgerton Fire District and has always been willing to work hard at building bridges and cooperation between Edgerton and other surrounding Fire Departments in Rock, Dane and Jeffrson Counties. We can learn a lot from John's style and continue what he has done in making us all better in the fire service for our citizens. Good luck John, wish you would reconsider, but totally understand your decision, I just hope your successor will have the skills you have employed in keeping your Department together with all of the continued controversy, as well as working closely with the neighboring Fire Departments

Well Edgerton we lost a very dedicated chief and in exchange we get 3 high paid radio operators and 3 to answer the phone. That is about all they are qualified to do. Thanks for the union in a volunteer fire dept!! We'll miss you Tsunami

Let's put yet another feather in Edgerton officials caps. When are citizens going to pull their heads out of their sand piles and see what the goverment of that town is doing to it? I suppose when it is finally left with nothing but bars, and cock roaches.

What a waste of good talent! Sorry to see him go. The fire district ought to be ashamed of putting good leaders through the legal wrangling "fire" of that affair. They should have left it alone 4 years ago! Next time, Just "go with the flow" for petes sake!
