Three middle-schoolers expelled
The Janesville School Board expelled three middle-school students Tuesday.
The students were accused of burglarizing a school, damaging school property and stealing school equipment.
The district does not reveal the age or gender of expelled students, but police reported that three 14-year-old boys were referred to juvenile authorities Oct. 9 on charges of burglary and theft in connection with a burglary over the previous weekend at Lincoln Elementary School, 1821 W. Conde St.
All three students were expelled through the end of the 2008-09 school year. They would be allowed to return starting with 2008 summer school, however, if they fulfill certain conditions: One would have to continue with counseling. One would have to attend the Truancy Abatement and Transitional Education program when space is available. A third would have to continue counseling and attend the TATE program.

Why was there no mention of the kids having to do some sort of work to repair and replace what they damaged? If kids are made to fix/replace what they destroy maybe they will think twice before doing it again.

I have 4 at home, All boys. Oldest Bi-polar, One of the triplets ADHD, All doing marvelous. Oldest looking at scholarship to obtain BA in Theology after High school and a career in Ministry work and has the grades to be able to follow through, Youngest three active in the youth Ministry. I know where they are and with who at all times. They have plenty of opportunity to make decisions as well as the mistakes that go with them. My wife and I have made every effort to make them “In sight and In mind” .

I believe bad kids do happen to good parents. I was a bad kid and my mom was the best you could ask for. She would punish me and do whatever she could to control me but I just didn't care. So these parents of these children shouldn't be punished for what their kids do. And most people who say that don't have teenagers.

Guess again.
Oldest daughter just graduated from Purdue.
The 14y/o is going to be a challenge.
We are monitoring her influences(friends) and making changes when required.
Too many parents have an "out of site/out of mind" mentality.

Say what? Bad kids are not born, there raised. If you allow them to raise themselves without guidelines and structure thats when you end up wondering where there at. All kids will make some mistakes at one point or another, it's part of growing up. But it doesen't remove the accountability or responsibility from there parents.

No, no. Why punish the parents? Sometimes good parents have bad kids. "Where were the parents?" you ask. Probably at home wondering where their kids were.
I can tell you never had teenagers.

I hope the district passes along the cost to repair the damages to the parent(s) of these young people.
