Downtown Janesville parking ramp proposed
From the WCLO Newsroom:
More parking is being proposed for Janesville's downtown.
City Manager Steve Sheiffer is proposing a new parking structure where the old ramp was at Parker Drive and East Wall Street. Sheiffer says the city needs additional parking downtown to promote economic development. The three or four level structure could cost $3 to $4 million. Shieffer is also suggesting a parking study for the west side of the river to prepare for the redevelopment of the Monterey Hotel.
He also says the city lot near the Johnson Bank should be considered for a parking structure in the future.

igotclout, if you remember there was an old ramp there, then maybe you remember the condition that the concrete was in. You could flake it off with your bare hands.

That ramp on Parker Drive is going to be a big, hot mess once the Downtown Drunks from the Glass, Quotes and Legends start crashing around in it and falling off the upper levels.
I hope some of that "$3 or $4 Million" would include a security system to deter bored teens with skateboards and transients from congregating, to deter drug deals and prostitution in blind and dark corners and , and offer guards to walk you to your vehicle if you don't feel safe walking alone.
Some how I have a feeling that none of THAT is being considered.

Get a handle on how well-run Janesville is.
There will be no mayor. Get used to it.

Mr city manager we dont need your input anymore, just coast out and we will take them up with a new manager (mayor?). and then we dont want to hear from you again, how great you were etc. Why didnt you do something about the five points? why werent you more asgressive about the Hotel? Why did you let the streets go so long, do away with our little neighbor hood skating rinks, a few xmas decorations down town that we used to have, let a beautiful park like Riverside slide and go down hill. Really I think you have been a failure period. etc etc etc. its the little things that make a city without high taxes I might add, but you just wanted to tax us to death and if we didnt like it we could move.

Didn't we already have a parking ramp? That the city didn't take care of, and had to be torn down. I would like to know the cost of the Demo on the first ramp and have that taken out of Steve Sheiffer's pocket, before I would endorse another parking ramp.

Let's not put the cart in front of the horse, how long has this motel been vacant, ten plus years, seems to me about all it has been used for is to hold cell phone towers or antennas, and such, dont give Mr. Grafft anything until his work is totally complete.
