Milton teachers union to hold rally
The Milton Education Association, union for the Milton School District teachers, will hold a rally this afternoon before attending tonight's school board meeting to show its concern about contract negotiations.
The rally and a picnic will be held at 5:30 p.m. at Milton Middle School.
The union is trying to encourage the school board "to return to the bargaining table and negotiate in good faith," according to a news release.
Milton teachers have been working under an expired contract since July 2007. The Milton School Board filed for mediation April 8.

We are being educated about our Wellness Program today and tomorrow while our union meeting will take place next week when the official numbers are released. Rumors have been rampant in our school about an increase in premiums and a salary increase under 2% for this year and only slightly better for next year.

fbcoach66,
Our contract has nothing to do with GM and that is the rational that got us a losing deal.
Beloit guy,
Yes we took a huge cut in our health insurance, we agreed to pay premiums when it isn't needed at this point. Did we get a little better raise? Yes, very little, but we gave up yet another benefit that we will never get back. Our union was very spit on the issue and it rarely passed.

I disagree with you fbcoach66 - I think our union gave up and gave in!

Beloit Guy,
As a Janesville Teacher I'd like to hear the details of your offer. I think ours was as good as we were going to get, and with the GM news today I'm glad we took it.

It will be interesting to see what the Milton teachers get. Are there any Janesville teachers out there? I saw the raise this year was over 3%....did you take any cuts into your health coverage? The Beloit Schools (where I teach) have agreed to a contract but it has not been ratified by our union yet. Actually, if the rumors of the deal are accurate it may be a difficult sell to our educators!
