FOX: Favre traded to Jets

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- The Green Bay Packers have reached an agreement to trade quarterback Brett Favre to the New York Jets, the team announced late Wednesday night. Terms of the trade weren't immediately available.

The Packers had been talking with the Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers since deciding earlier this week that the team and the three-time MVP couldn't co-exist. The Packers decided to move forward with Aaron Rodgers as their starter after Favre announced his retirement in March.

Favre's agent, James "Bus" Cook, confirmed the deal in a text message to The Associated Press late Wednesday night.

The agreement first was reported by Fox Sports on its Web site.

We all shouldn't be suprised, most ALL of management only care about their own gains, even though we all know They are going to loose alot of money, and respect. I remember when the pack were realy bad,I know who turned things around,Brett & HIS teams. I hope after this year, when management get fired,I vote for Brett to coach the Packers,WHEN he is done playing that is.

Brett will always be a Packer! The management just screwed up big time, they should've bent over backwards to please Brett, hell he only has maybe two to three good years left, this WILL haunt them the rest of their lives. I hope no one goes to the home games this year,Management needs to get fired, good luck to the new QB.,you got some awful big shoes to fill!!!

LMAO Mom - Same thing came to my mind when they said New York!

"I don't know what the Favre/Packer fans are going to do with their valuable free time now that this soap opera has played out. Maybe, focus on "real life" now..... you know, things that are actually important in life like; family, friends, community? Things like that."

Maybe you should show us how Darius. Uh DER!

spikesmom: Don't spend too much on Rodger paraphenalia: he'll be out of there come January. This is the last year on his contract. He will be released if he doesn't produce. And, if he does produce or show promise (ie not getting hurt and is able to start morethan 2 games consecutively and isn't rushed by HIS 2nd string defense) the Packers won't stand a chance in retaining him in free agency. They never do. Ted Thompson (aka Beaker from the Muppet Babies) will do not do the free agency dance with these players and their agents. Rodgers will be a has been before he was even an "is."
.
Just like in the 96 season....people thought Brett was crazy for announcing he was going to WIN the Superbowl. He will do just fine in New York City.
.
But, knowing the farm boy that he is, all I have been able to picture all morning is the old Pace Picante Sauce commercials. <Cowboy is sitting by the fire. He picks up a jar of salsa. And, in his best southern accent he exclaims "NEW YORE-K CIDDY??"

It seems to me that there are many other talented players on the Packers team besides Favre. Remember, a few years ago the Pack were 8-8 with Favre. We should be more concerned with the running back situation not being settled. If it had not been for the good running game, Favre would not have looked so good last year either. A TRUE Packer fan will support them no matter what. I know I will. If anybody wants to sell their season tickets cheap, let me know :)

Ya really impressive that you named a quarterback that retired 20 years ago, a terrible tightend, and a quarterback who is going to be released any second! Favre goes from having 5 good receivers to 1 receiver in Lavernious Coles! Good luck Favre but im sorry to say that this is just going to be another Joe Montana end to your career!

Ok let's see...
The Jets are in the AFC East and NOT on the Pack schedule this season. The Bucs are in the NFC South and they're playin' the Pack 4 games into the season. They will not meet unless it's in the Superbowl. I think it would've been a better fit for Favre to go to the Bucs because of the West Coast offense and Gruden, but that's exactly why the Pack management didn't want him there. I didn't follow the Jets last year, and haven't been a fan...until now. I know they had a crappy season last year. 4-12. But that's all goin' to turn around this year. :) Oh yeah...most notably...JOE NAMATH....Chad Pennington, who has been replaced by Favre...and Bubba Franks. :) Impressed?

nutty, spunkmeyer and razorsharp: you are hilarious!
.
PS--Brett does what Brett wants. Bus Cook doesn't control him or his purse strings.
.
In fact, Deanna AND Bus sat in their family room on Tuesday trying to convince Brett to go back to Lambeau to practice.
.
The sale/production of Favre merchandise has been stagnant since March. Once he was no longer part of the player's union, there was no longer an umbrella contract to use his likeness or marketing. NOTHING new has been able to be manufactured because of this (merchandise in stores, warehouses and "on water" are able to be sold yet). Brett, Deanna and Bus Cook were not willing to negotiate with companies as an individual (like all players who retire, quit, etc..,). They could have named their price and it would have been met. But....they didn't. Outside of Janesville, there are other things more important than just GM and money, apparently.
.
Yes, the Packers have made it difficult--if not impossible--for the Jets to trade Brett to the Vikings. But that doesn't mean another team can't......
.
Now Brett can be reunited with Bubba "I can't hold on to the ball" Franks. Yippeee!
.
I hear TT, McCarthy and Mark Murphy are out auditioning for a TV pilot sitcom. It is slated to be called "The Three Stooges."

Not sure what to think about this whole situation, One side of me agrees with The Green Bay Packers wanting to move on and get rid of the whole circus thing with Brett Favre, but the other side also feel's the packers should have let Brett go to the highest bidder no matter who that was, I think the way they handled this whole thing makes Green Bay Packers Org look like they dont care for a Man who put them back on the map. I wish the best for Brett and hope he finds peace as his storied career comes to an end. On the other hand I wish the best for Aaron Rodgers I just hope the people of Wisconsin give him the same chance they gave Brett.

Ted Thompson is an absolute moron. Ron Wolf gets Favre in the deal of the century only to have one of his predecessors give him away for practically nothing. Rodgers looked terrible against the 2nd team defense. It's gonna be a long season. Glad I have Sunday Ticket so I can watch other games.

It wasn't about money. It's about playing football. Out of the two teams the Pack wanted to trade him to, the Jets gives him the best shot at a Superbowl. And btw, the Bucs weren't even a real consideration cuz the Pack didn't want him in their division. And FYI, the Pack has made it dang near impossible for him to be traded by the Jets to the Vikes. If they do this, the Jets have to give the Pack THREE 1ST round draft picks. The Pack is scared of playing against him. Plain and simple. Wonder why that is....hmmmmm.

I am so happy all of this is FINALLY over! I am so sick of the fans that think that Brett makes the Packers. He was great, times have changed, the franchise needs to move on. I wonder if Brett will get to drag the Jets on with the retirement saga each year? I have lost my respect for this man in the way he handled this. Good bye Brett. What's the last Jet that you can name? Uh, they suck.

This has a lot to do with Money.

If Bret would wind up in the Number 2 position in GB this would seriously cut into his endorsement $$$$$$$$

Remember who was on that plane when they arrived in GB, Bret his wife and his AGENT

So His Agent would not allow Bret to lose this power, and his (the agent) commissions.
Now that he is a JET he will have access to a much larger endorsement pool.
It should take less than a week for Bret to show up on NY TV in a new add.
Not to mention the entirely new market for Jersey Sales with his name on it. All those new Jets fans as well as those Farve fans who will put away there green and gold for a new Green and White. Lots of new $$$$$$$ for Bret and his agent.

Speeking of endosement adds, Im so confused by the Cell phone add he is in. It just makes no sense now.

"steriod use, his classic thumb injury, his bad shoulder, "his" floods in Missouri(so many people aided the flood relief, not just Brett"

Um I don't remember him having problems with steroids. It was vicodin. You really think he's the only one in the league that's ever had a problem with that drug?? He went to rehab for it. So get over it. And as far as "his" floods in Missouri....it was MISSISSIPPI. He and his family were directly affected by Hurricane Katrina. Before you post...make sure you know what you're talking about mmmk?

Pablo...I agree, I'm glad he's gone. He can't "retire", have the team move on, and then decide he wants to be head honcho again. Yes, I also think the people who want Rodgers to fail are pathetic! The Packers are still Wisconsin's team and to wish failure because the "almighty" Favre is gone is simply "so sophmoric"!

If Rodgers is the new talent your talking about he will be injured before the preseason is over.

He has been injured every year since coming to GB, The only reason he is still there is he was Thompson's hand picked and both will be out the door shortly.
