Health official: No cause yet for jail sickness

APPLETON, Wis. (AP) — Outagamie County health officials say they are testing food to find out what made 135 inmates at the county jail sick with stomach cramps and diarrhea.

The inmates began getting sick early Friday morning, but none required hospitalization.

Outagamie County Public Health Manager Melody Bockenfeld says tests are focusing on a beef, turkey and gravy casserole served at the jail. The dish included vegetables.

Bockenfeld says the organism that caused the sickness should be known once testing of stool samples is completed early this week.

She says an inspection of the jail’s kitchen was conducted as a result of the outbreak.

The jail has about 400 inmates.

criminals are people too dean. its not about defending criminals as much as not wishing illness on another human being.

Those 135 were probably told they were going to be moved to rock county...ha

it does seem humorous, but it is also a sign of the times. No matter what the setting, there is contaminated foods popping up everywhere.

If you can make it through jail/prison time and being sick, more power to ya. Just learn all you can from the experience and set the goals of not repeating the acts of going to jail/prison. Now, there's a concept!!

you wouldnt think it so funny if it were you or a friend or relative getting sick. amazing finding amusement off of someone getting sick.
