The city of Janesville has declared a snow emergency starting at 6 p.m. today, Wednesday.

A snow emergency means that all vehicles must be removed from city streets and public parking lots until snow plowing operations are complete.

"To ensure that you do not receive a parking ticket, please move your vehicle prior to 6 p.m. and keep your vehicle off city streets until they have been completely plowed," according to the announcement.

"The best place to park during a snow emergency is in your garage or driveway. If you are unable to park in a driveway or garage, please park in one of the designated snow emergency parking stalls," the city says.

The emergency parking stalls are located in these lots: East Wall Street lot at East Wall Street & North Parker Drive; Municipal Building lot at West Wall Street & North Jackson Street; South High Street lot at West Court Street & South High Street; Senior Center lot at St. Lawrence Avenue & Water Street; Hedberg Public Library lot on Water Street; River/Union Street lot at South River Street & Union Street.

Each lot has signs designating the snow emergency parking stalls.

Fines for parking on the streets during a snow emergency are $20. The Police Department may begin issuing tickets to violators before plowing operations begin.

For more Janesville snow emergency information, go to www.ci.janesville.wi.us or call 755-SNOW. To report problems or concerns, call 755-3110.

Wow 'warm' and 'mack'...I didn't live in Janesville anymore either, but I didn't realize I wasn't welcome to read or comment on my hometown's news.

Gotta love the angry snow shovellers who are suffering from winter depression already. There are professionals who can deal with your frustrations, mack and warm. Just take your meds and go sledding. And have a Merry Christmas.

KenB . . why would you spend money to plow the gutter, you don't drive there. There was too little snow to plow last Sunday - face it. It got packed down and plows wouldn't have done a darn thing. City called it right and saved my money. It's Wisconsin. It's gonna be slick.

I agree with gpawcat they plowed my street a little after 4 pm. I was behind a guy driving south on County G from Jvl. to Beloit he was doing 40 in a 55 which is ok but when the speed limit changed to 40 when we hit Beloit he slowed down to 20. Come on if you can do 40 in a 55 go 40 in a 40. Geeze

I measured 5" still on the road between the tire track of the mailman to the curb, down 1/2 mile on the street yesterday.... My street and many streets are still very dangerous. Now unless we get a melting day we have a good bottom of 2 or 3 inches of ice in the middle of the road.... If I move to Florida, I'll make sure that I log on to complain. You should plow or not plow...

What really gets me is when I'm behind someone going really slow on the highway, and I want to go faster. The next thing I know they've turned off, and I'm in the lead going as slow, if not slower than they were, thinking "what the heck was I thinking?"

I was up at Parker today around the end of B lunch. I watched a student(I know this because I watched them park in the student parking lot) come down the side road by the church, slid through the stop sign and finally got the car turned after going in the far lane. I seriously thought he was going to end up in someones front yard. Just driving too fast for conditions and not had enough experience on these roads. The kid was lucky that no one was in either lane at the time.

KenB last storm recorded 5" but if you had 3" stuck to your street you were lucky. Most of it melted when it hit. I agreed with the City's decision to not plow. It's comin outta my pocket and wasn't necessary.

lulu~They will never learn. I had some jerk right on my bumper for about ten blocks. If he thought I was gonna move, he was sadly mistaken. I'm not putting my family in even more danger because you want to speed and your in a hurry. I was actually even doing the speed limit. People irrate me! No....STUPID PEOPLE IRRATE ME!

People are driving like idiots out there. On my way to work at 2:30 today I saw a person driving a huge silver Dodge Ram with a plow attachment weaving in and out of traffic, speeding and not using directional s! I should have written down the license number to post up here... People need to realize that when the roads are slick, no matter what kind of vehicle you are in, you have a high chance of getting into an accident!

Hey Kbjammen, If you don't like the plowing you can always move to Florida and deal with the hurricanes.

We have a one car garage...that is used as storage since our house is tiny. Plus three cars to try to put in the single car driveway! Our neighbors have kindly let us use their driveway. Too bad more people weren't like that!

I wonder if they'll actually ticket for the people who don't move their cars. It would take a small miracle to get some of my neighbors to move their extra vehicles and trailers off of our street, despite the fact they have plenty of room in their driveways and 3 car garages....

Snow plowed at 3:30 pm today before emergency. Can we put a car in the street? It's done snowing.
